Many of our favorite foods,
need special care during the
summer months. As temperatures
rise, the chances of food
contamination multiply.
Cleanliness and good sanitary
practices should be observed at
all times.
Meat safety starts with
government inspected packing
plants. In these plants federal
veterinarians examine animals
before and after slaughter to
ensure that the meat is

thawing frozen meats in the
refrigerator, not on counter tops

Health Tips
The Canadian Red Cross
• Society is especially concerned
over the fact that 212 children
were drowned in . Canada last
year because they were
unsupervised. The . Ontario
Safety League joins with the
• Red Cross in urging parents to
• recognize their responsibilities
for children at beaches and
swimming pools. Reinethber that
the -lifeguard is unable to watch
every child at all times, and it
only takes one drop of water to
put a child into a state of
drowning. Statistics prove that
• most children drown in less than
two feet of water. For your
child's safety,", -never let him out
of your sight while on the beach.
Nutrition is a family affair:
Good fdod habits should be
• /earned at home. Are you setting
the proper example? Plan
your family's meals around a
variety of foods. Follow
mada's Food Rules. Establish
• the pattern for a' healthy future.
Specialize in Exercise -for fun
and fitness. Make it part of your
family life. You will feel better,
• look better and . sleep better.
This is the advice of the Health
League of Canada which is
sponsoring National Health
Week - March 9-15.
