Thursday was Play Day at North Ashfield Public School when the children enjoyed Reunion held The first reunion of the John and Ann (MacLeod) Matheson Clan was held and the 135th anniversary of their arrival in Canada • observed, with • a registration of over 225 relatives, on Saturday, , June 28, at Southside Park, Woodstock, 'John and Ann, with five 'of • their children, (five ,other children were born in Oxford County), carne from Dornoch, . Sutherlandshire, Scotland, in 1834, on a sailing vessel, an eight weeks trip, and settled on a farm on the east half of lot 24, concession eight, West Zorra, in Oxford County. They are buried in the Old Log•Church cemetery. In the Matheson Genealogy; prepared by Rev. A ball game and refreshments were enjoyed by all. Congratulations are in order for all students who successfully completed another year at school and especially to Dianne MacKenzie who won the science award at Brookside Public School. Greg Hamilton was unable to attend the graduation exercises at Brookside School as the result of infection froma bee sting: Miss Doris Wylds of Toronto spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Wylds. Anniversary services were conducted on Sunday at Ashfield Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charles McCarroll as guest speaker. Mr. McCarroll is the minister at Brussels Presbyterian Church. Many attended the Ashfield Township ,Federation of Agriculture Picnic on -Sunday at Ashfield Park. New steps to the -lake built by the Federation were put to use by those going to and coming from the beach. All agreed it ,was a fine project. Charles Boyd is a patient in Kincardine libspital. John McCharles of Petrolia spent the weekend with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Cook celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on Saturday evening when they entertained family and friends to a' dinner at the Log Cabin -Restaurant.
