GARDENING TIPS
Soon after forsythia has
flowered, prune out some of the
oldest wood. Weak and broken
branches should be removed sas
well. Horticulturists with the
OntariO Department of
Agriculture and Food say that
this encourages the production
of new wood which will flower
next spring. If this chore is
delayed until midsummer or
later, the amount of bloom next
year may be reduced.
FRESH FLOWERS
Bring spring in. Fresh floyers
add a cheery note to any table
arrangernent. Use as, a
centerpiece or accent individual
settings with a single bloom.
Home economists at Macdonald
Institute, University of Guelph,,
remind you to keep bouquets
fresh, removing or replacing
wilted flowers. •
prevents we formation of seed
which drains the vitality of
bulbs. When -the foliage and
stalks have matured and died,
they should be removed as they
ma' be sources of infection.
Is there a hole in the wall
where you took down, the
picture? Don't despair — repair!
Mix equal amounts of salt and
starch with just enough water to
make a plaster -like. paste. Holes
will bo covered and no one will
know your salt secret.
