Friday, May 30, the, GDCI
Grad' .Banquet was held in the
banquet area of the Pizza Patio.
0 All graduates .of the four and
five year streams and all teachers
turned up to partake in a most.
enjoyable evening. After the
dinner, Barry Grace, master of
ceremonies for the evening,
introduced Janice Redmond on
▪ behalf of the four year students,
and Dav6 Steep on behalf of the
5 year students to speak on and
thank their -various teachers. As
usual, several, jokes were made,
especially by Dawe, who
portrayed teachers as they might
. have been in another day and
~ age.
. Following their remarks, Mr.
Stringer was presented. with a
swivel chair for his office.
Many ' were surprised' at' the
astonishing resemblance ' to
'another chair which had
disappeared from his office that
very day!
Mr. Stringer spoke briefly,
'acknowledging Dave and' Jan, and
wishing all grads the best of luck
and good sense. Archie Hunter
was pleasantly surprised when
Mr. Stringer announced his
winning of the Strang
scholarship.
Mr. McKinley, 'MP for Huron
then introduced Mr. MacQuarrie,
the guest speaker, , MP from
P.E.I. This address was excellent
and I am sure .that all students
and teachers enjoyed it
thoroughly. While poking fun at
Liberals, the conservative liberal
encouraged students to enter the
world bravely " and. ',.become
involved in civic affairs, .and
politics.
Barry concluded the evening
with a thank you to the teachers
and a wish for good fortune to
the grads.
He also thanked the
committee of Betsy Jerry, Barr.
Buchanan, Dan O'Brien, Linda
Barlow and Mary Kolkman who
had organized the affair and who
deserved much credit for their
excellent effort.
