Social Activity chairman, Pat

Mr. Shrier. A native of Preston,
Bob started his newspaper career

Thompson enterprise.
TRANSITION PERIOD
"The past three years have
been a period of transition for
us," Mr. Shrier said and spoke of
the new $25,000 computerized

that print six newspaper
columns an hour and. of the new
offset presses installed three years
ago. Weekly newspapers in the
area have „reproduction second
to none due to offset. "Not even
the daily newspapers can touch
them," he said.
The Signal -Star presses print
14 publications and anyone
wishing to tour the office is
welcome.
EDITORIALS CONSCIENCE
OF COMMUNITY
A 'newspaper editorial page
should be the conscience of the
community. Mr. Shrier said,."If
your local paper is not being
honest then it is not doing. its
job. We have called people on
the carpet," Mr. • -Shrier
continued, "at the risk of losing
friends and subscibers, and we

have lost both, because we have
called a spade a spade."
Letters to the Editor have
constantly put the Signal -Star on'
the carnet for not doing its lob.
• WHERE WERE
YOU WHEN??
"I'm sick and tired of people
saying there's., nothing in the
paper, ' there are too many
pictures, or why" weren't you'
there when? Who is the paper?
It's you, me and the office staff.
"How "are we to know of an
event if you didn't call us? We're
as near' as the phone, you don't
even have to give your name
when calling:
STEP FURTHER •
"We have an editor and
reporter and we all like to spell('
some time with our farnilii.
To -day is Sunday and our
editor has five items to cover
and this will by no means cover
a- ll the functions that are going
on to -day. A tremendous
amount of hours go into getting
the paper "ready for bed" by
Tuesday night. It's not fair for
people toet irate because the
Signal -Star has dropped the ball
on some occasions. That's why
there are rubbers at the end 'of
pencils....we all make mistakes!
