playda
Victoria Public School held its
annual playday Wednesday, June
11, with a good turnout of
parents cheering their children
on in the competitive team
events. Playday is held for the
students : of kindergarten and
grades one, two and three. It is
the equivalent of Field Day in'
the senior public school grades.
For playday the "children are
formed into 36 teams which
compete in such events as sack
races, wheelbarrow races, race
relays and run the bases. Every
team receives ribbons, with
different colors awarded to the
top four teams. Ice cream bars
and a social time follows the
afternoon activities. Top left

A horse came to watch the people race at Colborne School Field School, who accompanied Midnight to this 'Icing event of the
c. Day. Popular spectator for the track and field events was season. Miss Prest is a student at Goderich District Collegiate
Midnight, owned by Dawn Prest, a former student at Colborne Institute,

Shakespeare opened the
scoring in the 2nd inning on a
hit from M. Gerber and scored
on. a long fly ball into right field
from L. DeJong. Dodgers took
the lead .2-1 at the end of the Mary Kolkman picked up two
2nd inning on runs from Bev triples,. and a single, ' Betty
Wright and Donna Hayden. DeBruyn also had three hits. Sue

Shakespeare got one run back
in the 4th inning and tied the
score iti the 5th inning. The
visiting team went ahead 6-4 in
Hayden each had a hit.
Bev Wright went 7 innings for
the Dodgers, giving up seven hits
and striking out six batters, she
was relieved by Mary Kolkman
who gave up. three hits. D.
Herold went all the way for
Shakespeare giving up nine hits
and striking out two batters.
