held on the farm of Ross Eedy,
Ashfield Township on'Tuesday,

were judged with' John Clark
giving the official .,placing. A
lesson concerning breeding
methods and systems were
discussed.

contract also calls for new

Lawrence was born on
October 17, 1951.
Besides his parents he is
survived byone sister, Mrs.
George (Reta) Neil and four
brothers, James, Alvin, Gary and
John, and his paternal
grandparents Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence Smith.
Funeral services were held
from Stiles Funeral Home,
Goderich on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
with interment in Dungannon
Cemetery.

Noonaman and Martes Lohse.

with his American friend Spike and his -collection of trophies displayed for the Signal -Star on

Bill. Wilkinson, well-known
Goderich athlete, is home for
the summmer, after completing
his second year of shinpads and
textbooks at St. Lawrence
University, Canton, N.Y.
Best know for hockey, Bill
fas,ria le&inost,Rluable .player
for SLU Larries this past season,
and has been voted co -captain -
forthe coming season. Bill is
also a top golfer and ballplayer.
He has also' been seen around the
tennis courts recently and
handles a raquette rather well.
When asked about athletic
scholarships, *in a recent
interview with the Signal -Star,
Bill said that, in his opinion they
were beneficial; but hastened to
correct the terminology —
"They are not called- -athletic
scholarships but are known as
Parent Confidential Aid."
"This Confidential Aid is
certainly a factor in attracting
young Canadian hockey talent
to universities competing 4in the
NCAA conference." Bill said. -
He spoke of Gary Crotpau —
last season's SLU Larries captain
and outstanding player this
season with the Los Angeles
Kings, of the National Hockey,
League.
Ken Dryden, Toronto, is a
particular favorite of Bill's. He
won All American honors three
years in .a row at Cornell.
Kevin O'Shea of the Canadian
National's fame also was
formerly ' of St. Lawrence
University. -
Also mentioned by Bill were
well-known Canadians who ,
graduated from St. Lawrence
UniversiiAy -- Bryan' McFarland,
the color man with the Toronto
Maple Leaf hockey broadcasts,
and John Mason, Goderich Sifto
Junior .B coach 'for the past
several seasons.
St. Lawrence University will
host the National Collegiate
Athletic Association Hockey
Tournament at Lake Placid,
N.Y., this coming season when
the two top teams of the
Western division meet the two
1,. inners of the eastern division
for the N.C. double A
Championship.
When . the hockey season is
over, Bill swaps his shinpads for
golf clubs and plays on the SLU
Golf Team. "This year the
season was not so good," said
Bill, . "we had a six and six
record."
Bill is on the recreational staff
at Goderich Psychiatric Hospital
for the summer months. When
not at work, he can be found on
the golf course or the ball
diamond or the tennis courts. He
is easily recognizable, -he'll
probably be with his good friend

Tenders have been called for
construction of a new 33 -foot
wide bridge .on Highway 8 over
Silver . Creek just east of
Seaforth, the Hon. Charles C.
MacNaughton announced
The new rigid frame structure
will ,replace the. present steel
beam arid concrete span built in.
the early 1920s and will provide
a space for traffic about W feet
wider than Ale existing bridge.
The Huron MPP said that
construction is expected to start
early in August and will be
completed by mid-November to
avoid the inconvenience of a
detour in winter months.
