The
The ladles of the ` Thursday
Night Social League ended their
scheduled season on Thursday,
May 8, with the "Hot Shots"
taking first place with 150
points, captained by Audrey
Machan. Close behind were the
"Salties" winning second place
with 149 points, captained by ,
Barb Shewfelt and third place`
winners were the "Kluless" with
138 , points, 'captained by Barb
Streeter. •
, The high average of ,219 went
to Doe Queen; high triple was
taken by Faye Sheardown with
786; anti high single to Fran
McClinchey with a 360 game.
A new trophy was added to
this league: it's for the girl "who
bettered her average the most:"
It, was won by Sharon Kirkey
who `bettered her average by 64
points. '
The one night of play-offs
Was held , May15 with the
"Greenhorns" taking° total
pinrfall of 3570 captained by
onna Duncan. _
There were seven girls this
year with perfect attendance out
,of the 96 girls who bowled.

father Mr. Albert Cook in Owen
Sound hospital .on Wednesday.

Ross MacKenzie for the
weekend were Mr. and Mrs,. Bill
Barrett and family and Mr. Ray
MacKenzie of Toronto.
Holiday visitors with Mr. ,and
Mrs. Gordon Finlayson were. Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Rogerson and
family,' Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Emberlin of Toronto . and Mr.
Rod Finlayson of Sarnia.
T h u rs day afternoon the
pupils of grades 5 and 6 at North
Ashfield School and teacher Mrs.
Sandy MacCharles had a. science
lesson outdoors with a walk to
the bush where they secured
specimens to stti'dy. Grades one,
two and three ` had a clean up
day at which time they cleaned
the yard around the school. At
three o'clock all enjoyed hot
dogs and cold drinks served by
the teachers.
SHOWER
Friday evening friends and
relatives of Miss Barbara
MacKenzie bride -elect, gathered
'to shower her 'with 'gifts and,
good. wishes. Mrs. Alvin Robb
and Mrs. Eldon Bradley shared
the ' M.C. duties for a good
program of community singing,
a skit, Aunt Betsy McPherson;.a
duet by Lillian and Mary Lillian
Simpson;' Christine MacLennan
danced and Mrs. Robb gave a
reading. Mrs. Jack MacKenzie
sang a solo and the girls from the
Ashfield Choir sang a number.
Contests were conducted by
Mrs. Bradley and the
presentation of gifts to Barbara.
After the opening of the gifts
Barbara thanked. everyone and
invited them all to a trousseau
tea to be held in her honor on
May 31 at the home of her
parents.
The banquet and dance will
be held Friday, May 23, with
husbands or friends as guests.
DONNYBROOK
The 1Vl"ay meeting of the
,U.C.W. was held Tuesday
afternoon at the home of Mrs.
'Stuart Chamney with a good
attendance. Mrs: Ray Hanna had
charge of the meeting and
opened with all singing- 'Happy
the home when God is there."
Mrs. Ernest Snowden read the
Scripture lesson.
Mrs. Hilliard , Jefferson led in
prayer. "In Christ there is no
East or West" was sung and Mrs.
Hanna had charge of the topic
which was on China and after
reading had questions and a
short discussion period. "Jesus
shall reign" was sung and Mrs.
John Hildebrand took charge of
the business. Two invitations
had'. been received and both
accepted, one to Hacketts
Church May 14 at 8.30 p.m. and
one to Calvin—Brick June 2 at
8.15 p.m.
Mrs. Stuart Chamney gave the
minutes of the preyious meeting
and had roll call, the a offering
was received. It was voted and
passed to sponsor a child at
Camp. Mrs. Morley Johnston
spoke of packing a bale for
relief. The meeting 'closed with
all repeating the benediction in
unison. Lunch was served by the
hostess assisted by Mrs. Wesley
Jefferson and Mrs. Ernest
Snowden.
Two carloads of ladies
belonging to the U.C.W. enjoyed
a special meeting at Hackett's
United Church on Wednesday
evening.
lt1iss Clare McGowan shoved
pictures of her trip to the Holy
Land which were very beautiful.
Miss Corenne McDonald sang
.two solos, • "Mother" and
"Happy the horrie- when God is
there."
Mr. Doug Cameron and . Miss
Wilma Hackett played several
violin duets. The ladies of the
'Church served lunch and a social
time. was spent together at the
'close of the meeting.
Mrs. -Jim Leddy visited several
times this past week at St.
Mary's Hospital, Kitchener with
Jim who is a patient.there having.
had surgery done on Tuesday.
We hope he will soon be, home
again. -
Mr. and Mrs. George 'Reeves
of Toronto spent the weekend
with Mr. • and Mrs. Hilliard
Jefferson and family. Miss Mary
Jefferson of London and Miss
Sharron Jefferson of Sarnia also
• spent the weekend at the same
home.
Miss Lucy Thompson of
-Oakville spent the weekend at
her home.
Baptismal service was
conducted Sunday morning at
the Donnybrook United Church
for "Diane Irene" daughter of
Mr. and, Mrs. Wesley Jefferson.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Campbell
pf London .visited Monday with
Mr. and Mrs.. Charles Jefferson,
Mrs. Wesley' Jefferson visited
Friday with her grandfather Mr.
Willows Mountain who has been
a patient in Clinton Hospital for
a couple of weeks due to surgery
and we are glad to report arrived
home Sunday.

The A.C.W. Met in basement
of Christ Anglican church on
Tuesday night. There were seven
members present. Secretary and
treasurer's .reports were adopted
as'read. Thank you notes were
also read. Each member read a
paragraph about the• history of
the Anglican. Church. Mrs.
Foster closed the meeting with
prayer. Lunch was served.
Mrs. Earp Teschke, Valerie;
Gerald, Mary, Glen and Elaine of
Desboro visited° with Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Hay on Sunday.

900 graduates receiving diplomas
from President°F. C. Jorgenson
at the Spring Convocation ' at
Ryerson Polytechnical Institute
inpToronto. His course was Civil
Technology.
In the 20 years since its
inception, Ryerson has
graduated approximately 9,500
students, many of whom hold
important positions in the arts
and in professional; business and
industrial fields in Canada, -the
United States and overseas. •
Shelley '4inner, a Ranger with the Goderich Ranger Company; received her. Gold Cord May p in a
ceremony at Harbour.lite Inn. The GoId Cord is the highest award attainable in Girl Guides. Shelley
was a Guide: with the 1st Goderich Company. before becoming a Ranger. Left to right are Mrs. W.
Reinhart who was Shelley's Leader, while in Guides; Miss, Mary ,,McMillen, training commissioner for
the county; Shelley and Mrs. B. McCreath, Huron division commissionerwho made the presentation.
Mrs. W. Dean, another of Shelley's Guide Leaders, was absent when photo was taken. Also taking part
in'fhe ceremony were Barbara Shelton, Brownie; Wanda Linner, Guide and Rangers Bonnie Such,
Brenda Ferris, Betty Bedard, Clare Bedard and Pat Mumey.
