From the
Minister's study
By Rev. G. L. Royal
"The brotherly -enclave"
a c They still say that the root of
all evil , is money, don't they?
91' Correct theologians point out
that it is love of money, not t the
money itself, that is the
bed -cause of evil. It is what
happens inside a man when he
comes into intimate contact
with • wealth that can poison his
human soul.
The garnering' in - of
possessions can, and too often
does, alter a person's outlook on
things and people that he might,
otherwise, hold a genuine
-affection for.
Now, .all of this is true, no
doubt, but the absence .of a true
brotherly spirit in our society
leadsus beyond the claims. of
money into the ° realms of
jealousy, envy and covetdusn ;ss.
We can all cry for a better
monetary deal from our country
and still. do ,nothingb about. the
'antagisms , that wreak their
havoc by' • the' loss, or
,nota -existence of,'mutual.respect
and harmony. Booker T.
.•_ Washington on remarked, "I
Shall never permit myself to
stoop so low,as to hate any
man." "Wondrful statement!
But, not so easy in the working

:T.o lose oneself in Jesus Christ
is 'the remedy We seek.' We
recall the nocturnal meeting of
z Nicl'iodemus with the Master (St.
John 3:1f). On that occasion
Christ declared -the -necessity of
"being born again." Something
must happen within the eternal
soul of man to alter him, to.
reverse his headlong plunge to
oblivion; to direct his steps in
. nobler pursuit.
The modern thinker • holds
that Hell is separation from God
and there is ample reason to
believe this is so. No matter how
you approach the subject of Hell
it is evident that separation from
God .is the result, Christ's desire
was and is to lead men from
separation - to a complete
identification. Thus, He says to
Nichodemus, "ye must be bort.
again."
Strangely, the • Jewish ruler
goes literal on the Christ of God
and speaks in terms "of
re-entrying his mother's womb."
Christ is definitely not speaking
about the physical
impossibilities involved but
rather of the spiritual impact
and implication. The body will
receive its due from the spiritual
happening. Being born again has
to do with sin and its being cast
at the feet of the Man of
Calvary.
In I I Corinthians 5, Paul
speaks of "the new creature"
"Therefore if any man be in
Christ; "Yie'is a -new creature: old
3;c, things are passed away; behold,
all things are become new." (v.

Father's endeavors to redeem us,

brilliance, and we' declare that
we wish, above -all else, to be a
part of this Greatest Enterprise..
In, • the Christian's cry, "I
believe!" is found the basis of
"being born again."
My contention is that turning
to the New Life in Jesus Christ
lays the proper foundation for
brotherly love. Without the
knowledge that God loves
desperately the one we would
forsake we cannot truthfully, or
truly, gauge our fellow -human's
worth. The one we would
discard takes on • new
proportions when measured in
the Light of God's all-inclusive
affection. He turns from no
man! Ile . loves the -world!
Horizontally our concern must
flow out to the peoples of the
world: vertically our loyalty and
love must ascend in hymns of
praises to • our God: in _such an
atmosphere', True Brotherhood
can be born.
