NOT UNSUSPECTING
I am sure there are, many
fishermen like myself, ho are
taking an interest in what
improvements our Connell
intend taking with respect to the
backwater channel at the
harbour. For many years it has
been the wish of many small
"carton boat" owners, to have
some ,place ..where they could
launch their craft, and also "tie
up" during. the _ fishing season,
without having to risk the .ride
around the, north pier, especially
if the water is rough; to gain'
access to the river. It would
appear that our wish is about to
be fulfilled. - '
However according to .Mr.
Ben Homan, he has other Ideas,`
at .least tas„far as "free' acres* ti)2.
the river is concerned. I read .in
last week's issue of the
Signal -Star, that Mr. and Mrs.
Homan, offered to remove the
fill at the end' of the channel, if
Council would pay for the
instal1atio ,of Hydro on Indian
Island.
In the trst instance, the fill
was placed there so that an
access ramp could `be- bulldozed
down to the water's edge.
Secondly if enough unsuspecting
people come along, Mr. Homan
will soon have enough money to"
pay for the installation of Hydro
on the island, or where ever else
he wishes to put, it. Obtaining
money by 'false statements, I
would say is quite a serious
matter, yet on Sunday April
27th, 1969, Mr. Homan stated
to me personally that he had a
lease on the particular portion' of
land in question, and further
stated that if I didn't pay $1.00

could get "to hell off."
On contacting the proper
authorities, I found that he did
not have a lease on the land, for
which he was requesting
payment for tying up my boat.
It is' understood by this
writer, that some unsuspecting
persons have already been
"found" by Mr. Homan. May I
suggest that they get a refund?
1 might say that if Mr. Homan
. wishes to establish a Marina on
' his own property, and has the
necessary funds to do so then he
has my 'blessings, but r would.
certainly object to him being
financed by the Town of which I
am a taxpayer, and then being
asked to pay for access' to the
river; and I am sure . that this
thinking - is' shared by many
others in town.
'John A. T. Pirie.
gt,$.,1 am not an unsuspecting
persdh.
