to be $3
For the first time in the
lrneinory of many an Ontario
fisherman, he will have to pay a
fee of $3 for the privilege' of
fishing in his favorite waters
during 1969. This applies to all
males 19 years of age and aver.
The three dollars only gives him
a licence to angle r— fish with a
rod and line. •
If he wants, to do'other lahings
such as catch minnows for bait,
that will cost another dollar. If
he picks up a few smelt this
spring when they are running,
this is an additional 'S1 fee. A,
licence to take fish, with a dip
net for personal use, where this
is legal, will cost $2. So, if a
fisherman wants to be fully
licenced to do all those things
that fishermen are want to do
when they are pursuing their_
favorite sport, it will cost a total
of $7. _
By the way, wives do not
need fishing licences. This is
impossible to understand as
frequently then catch . most •of
the fish. .
The Ontarid Safety League is
not too concerned about how
much the residents of Ontario
have to pay for the privilege of
fishing, but they are keenly
concerned about whether or not
they conduct their fishing in a
safe ,and sensible manner. rdm
statistics and actual incidents of
drowning last year during the
early fishing season, there was a
high percentage of fishermen
who did not fpllow this advice
which :, resiYlted in as '.many
drownings during th.e cold water
months of spring as in some of
the prime boating -months in the
summer.
The favorite method
employed -by fishermen to get
themselves into trouble was
standing' up in small car -top
boats on open- water. A
fisherman would do this tci
change places with his fishing pal
or just to stretch his legs.
Whatever the reason, the results
were the same; cold water that
soon left its victim immobilized
