g 'Low Blood Pressure
Many people mistakenly
think low blood pressure and a
low blood count are one and the
same. Low blood pressure and
low blood count are two entirely
different conditions, says the
'' Ontario Medical Association.
Low blood count generally
denotes a lower than normal
hemoglobin content or
oxygen -carrying capacity of the
blood; in other words, anemia.
This is always a symptom of
0 some ,underlying disorder and
requires careful investigation to
determine its exact cause.
Low ,blood pressure describes
the situation in which a patient's
blood pressure -- the' force at
which the blood is being
,. pumped . through the blood
vessels — is dower than one
would expect when compared to
others of the same age group.
(The term is also used in
conditions of shock or
hemorrhage where low blood
y, pressure is present and
represents the body's reaction to
the specific causes.).
The O.M A. says it is unwise
and unfair to tell a person who
feels well' and has no specific
symptom that be has low blood
pressure — simply because this
er was detected during a routine
medical examination. Such a
person is probably better off in
e long run than the person
with a. blood pressure that is
considered normal.
One symptom that is related
t to so-called low blood pressure is
dizziness due to postural
hypotension. The patient usually
has a sense of 'dizziness,
particularly on suddenly
changing position from lying to
sitting or standing. This is really
eV no great significance, and can
be eliminated completely by
changing position more slowly.

DEAR SIR:
If a person who was the
holder of a 120 day instruction
permit was going or coming
somewhere and travelling in a
motor vehicle, and the owner,
who was the holder of a valid
licence, was unable to drive or
be in the front seat beside him,
would it be lawful fbr the holder
of the instruction-. .permit 'to
drive?
ANSWER: According to the law,
the answer would be no. AS
stated previously, the holder of
an instruction permit must have
a. person who has a valid driver's
licence occupying the seat, beside
him. There are other charges
which could be laid if the reason
the holder of the valid licence
was unable' to drive was due to
alcohol or drugs; or if ale reason
he could not sit beside the driver
was due to parcels or other
objects crowding the driver.
DEAR SIR:
If it was late at night, and the
driver and owner of a' car was
too much under the weather to
drive properly, but, his wife was
there, whether she hada licence
or not, would she be allowed to
drivethe car so they would
- reach their destination'?
ANSWER: It wouldnA matter
what time of day or nightie was
or what the reason was, the law
states that you must have a valid
licence to drive a motor vehicle.
