out the following telegram to collect-
ors of customs regarding cholera:—
"The Minister especially' instructs you
to exercise the (neatest possible vigi
lance in orcler to locate any suspielous
articles in which infection might exist
which may be imported from infected
localities in the United. States. You
are to report all such cases to the •De-
partment of .Agriculture by wire. The
Minister orders that all customs officers
are te act peoraptly and efficiently as
quarantine officers, according to in-
structions sanctioned by law'which

Agriculture,.
A letter andressed to the Hon. the
Minister of Finance by a firm of well
known provision merchants in Liver-
pool, Eng., after alluding to the report
published in the Canadian Gazette of
the firm's show of Canadian dairy pro,

our stall we had samples of cream and

A mass meeting of temperance
workers will be heid in the lecture
room of Main Street Methodist church
on the evening of September 27th inst.

der the auspices of the Epworth League
of Main street church, aided. by the
Royal Tempters of Temperance. The
audience will be addressed by Reyds
McDonagh, Russell, and others. The
programme throughout is said to be a
good one. Admission free; let there
be a large attendance. Come and
crowd the house. This is the first of a
series of meetings te be carried on
during the coming season. Every
effort will be made to make these gath-
erings profitable. By order of Com-
mittee.

Mrs. A. Allan is slowly recovering

Gouhr has been confined to the house
for several days, but is slowly recover-

North, is at present ill with a bilious
attack. , Miss Polly Down, although
very low, is slowly recovering.
Another Warning.
A tramp travels about, fallis sick in
a farmer's house, writes a prescription
for some medicine, which he asks the
farmer to sign in order to make sure
that it will be sent to his house. The
traveller gets better and concludes not
to send for the medicine, keeps the
signature, and the:next thing the far
mer knows he has a note to pay. The
warning is given for the hundredth
time: Don't sign your name to any
paper for a stranger. ,

The laws of Ontario provide that a
person taking up any -stray cattle
shall give notice of such taking up by
publishing a notice three times in a
weekly newspaper, if one is published
within the section where the estray is
taken up; and if the property is not
called for within three weeks after the
first insertion of the notice thefinder
will go before a justice of the peace
and take oath to the finding and ad-
vertising. If the property is not
claimed within one year and •should
not exceed $50 in yalue, it then , be.
to the 'party taking- the same
up; if over $50 it shall be advertized
by the justice and soid, and the excess
of all expenses shall be paid over to
the. county treasurer. Any person
taking up an estray and neglecting to
cause the same to be advertised and
appraised shall be liable to a fine of
$20. The estray law applies also to
any other 'personal property which
may be fonnd in a like manner.
