HOUSING ETC.
The context of this letter will
most assuredly be understood by
some, and misunderstood by
other. To those who understand,
I thank you. Several incidents
have occurred, both last and
present, regarding thy• occupants
of both the ` Goderieh and
Ontario Housing Scheme. Many'
narrow-minded"`residents, who
• by the way, had their property
left to them or bought it for a
few hundred dollars years ago,
seem to be under the mistaken
impression that tenants of the
aforementioned, belong in the'
"waif and stray"• class and,
depend upon 'welfare for their
very existence. For those
unfortunates that have to
depend upon welfare due to
sickness, age or other legitimate
reasons, may God bless this
system. Bad apples of course
exist in all classes, However,
except for very few, all the
occupants of the housing scheme
pay good substantial rents, they
are law-abiding citizens and for
the most, hard working. These
houses are well superintended°
and inspected for health and fire
hazards. The housing scheme for
the most part cancels out some
unscrupulous people who would
charge , exorbitant rents for
mere shacks: The tenants under
the °housing association .do, in
point of fact, pay taxes and
.contribute considerably to the
economy of this town. 1
challenge all, or any, who look
down their noses at these
tenants, to enterand compare
their own premises '' for
cleanliness, ete., etc. Thank
Heaven, the percentage holding
this very mistaken. "holier than
thou" attitude is small; but they
do indulge in 'a vicious
whispering campaign that
involves all the tenants of said
housing scheme; •only because
they do not possess the fortitude
and common decency to speak
their minds to' the people in •
question.
