STRANG - STRAUGHAN
Benmiller United Church was
the setting for a wedding
ceremony on Saturday, March
15, when Susanne Ellen
Straughan became the bride of
William Henry Gordon Strang.
Rev. L. Warr officiated at the
4:30 p.m. nuptials. •
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Straughan,
•Benmiller. The groom" is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Strang,
Exeter.
Standards ,Q,f mauve gladioli
and whitmums stood at the
altar. A candelabra 'completed Patricia Durst of Benmiller
played the piano and
accompanied Robert Stoner who,
presented a vocal rendition.
The bride v'as given in
marriage by her father and wore
a princess, semi -fitted gown in
white peau de guipure lace. The
back . featured a floating train
edged with similar lace. A
headdress of silk petals and seed
pearls _held her full
shoulder -length veil of silk
• illusion, She carried a cascade
bouquet of yellow rosebuds and
mauie rr ns. -
Matron of honor was Mrs.
Gary -Jewitt. She wore a mauve
silk chiffon gown over taffeta
with a short veil held by a single
matching bow. She carried 'a'
cascade bouquet of white shasta
mums. firidesmaid was Miss
Nancy Strang, . who was
identically dressed, and carried
similar flowers.
Keith Strang, brother of the
groom, was best man and ushers
were . Bill Straughan and John
McKinley.
For a reception at the Pizza
Patio, the bride's mother chose a
coat and dress ensemble of
mauve silk .. shantung with
matching flowered hat and
•
corsage.
The mother of the groom
chose a suit of light green fortrel
with flowered hat and corsage.._
. For a honeymoon trip to
Florida, the bride wore a white
wool 'suit trimmed with lamb's
fur. Black accessories and a
corsage of `. yellow roses
completed her ensemble.
The couple will_ take up
residence in Exeter.- 4 -
The bride is a graduate of
Stratford Teachers' College. The
groom is a graduate of the
University of Guelph, B. Sc.
(agr.) •
Previous to her marriage the
bride was honored at showers
held by .41Arg- K. K, Dawson,
Dungannon and by Mrs. Frank
MacMichael, Benmiller. A
luncheon was also given in her
honor by the staff" of Hugh
Campbell Public School,
Clinton.

St, Joseph's Roman Catholic
Church, Kingsbridge, was • the
setting for a wedding ceremony
on Saturday, March 1, 1969,
when Anne Heffernan became
the bride of John H. Sheardown.
Rev. H. Galea officiated at the 3
p.m. nuptials.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Ormand Heffernan,
Ashfield Township. The groom
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Sheardown, Goderich.
Containers of chrysanthe-
mums decorated the church.
Sharon Courtney played the
organ . and accompanied the.
choir, led by Bill Van Osch, in'
'vocal renditions of "On This
Day,of Beautiful Mother", "Ave
Maria" and "0 Perfect Love."
The »bride was given in
marriage :by .her father and wore
a floor -length gown of white

enhanced by a bow. The
three-quarter A-line sleeves were
trimmed with Gu pifre'1ac -as
was, the bottom of the gown and
chapel train. A cluster of rose
buds held the four -tiered
shoulder length veil. The bride
carried a bouquet of red roses
with white hyacinths. ,
Matron of honor was Mrs.
Antone Van Osch, sister of the
bride. She wore a floor -length
gown of fuischa brilliant bonded
crepe with A-line sleeves. Her

The women members of
Goderich churches» joined
together on March 7 to celebrate
the World Day of Prayer.
Knox Presbyterian 'Church,
was the setting for special
services of prayer and
„ committment held in
conjunction with church women
throughout the world. The
theme was "Growingtogether in
Christ." .
The service. opened . with an
instrumental, prelude, the
African spiritual "Kuril Ba Yah,"
and. Mrs. Harold Rivers led the
service and gave the call to
prayer and the benediction.
She spoke , on the fellowship
around the world, of the power
and expectancy of a praying
cornmunity and asked the
congregation to think on the
significance • of considering

Ladies complete curling
The third draw of the °Ladies'
Curling Club completed curling
for the 1968-69 season. Winner
of the Tuesday , afternoon
section was a rink skipped by„
Mary Lapaine, with Jean Asher,
vice-Eiteerr Palmer, second -anti
Muriel Murphy, lead; with five
wins and a plus of 25.

Second . place went to Elsie
Gardner and her team, Janice
MacAdam, 'vice; Joanne Muck,
,second and Jane Deathe, lead;
with four wins and a plus of 14.
Third place went to Peg Wood
"assisted by .Phut. Durst; "vice;m
Grace MacDonald, second and
"Hazel Beaver, lead; and a score
of four wins and a plus of 10. •
The Thursday evening draw
was won -by Connie Osborne and
her rink; Jean Asher, vice; Nancy
Clements, second; end Leone
Robertson;lead;-•with four- wins --
and a plus of 21.
Second honors went (to Kay
Graf with 'Marj - Young, vice;
Penny Sumner, second and
Isabelle Smith, lead; with four
wins and a plus of 17.
Doris Paquette and her rink,
. Mary Walter, vice Carol Egener,
second; and Hazel Beaver, lead,
took third place with three wins
and a plus of 18. -
headpiece was a bow matching
the gown. She carried a crescent
of white chrysanthemums
accented with fuischa tinted
hyacinths. The bridesmaids, Miss
Rose- Hogan, and Miss Penny
Sheardown, selected gowns and
flowers the same as the matron
of honor.
Jerry Heffernan; brother of
the bride, was best man. Ushers
were Ray Heffernan and Wayne
,Sheardown. ,
For a reception in the parish
hall, the mother of the bride
selected a tangerine crimpalene
tires with . white velvet hat and
brown accessories. Her flowers
were a corsage 'df orange ice
roses.
The mother of the groom
chose a powder blue knit suit,
matching hat and black
accessories. Her flowers were'
pink roses.
. For a honeymoon trip to
Fort William, Toronto,
Brantford and Guelph, the bride
selected a gold bonded knit suit
with brown accessories and a
corsage of cinammon tinted
orchids.

Church, London, and is a CGIT
leader. '
She received her BA from the
University of Western Ontario,
graduated from Emanuel
`college Toronto; and was ln;
charge of a' Presbyterian church
while studying for her 'Master of
Religious. Education degree at.
Princeton.
Mrs. Rousom chose the World
Day of Prayer theme for her
address.

The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank F.
Thompson of Dungannon. The
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Glenn of Dungannon.
Rev. Glen Wright performed
the double -ring ceremony on
Saturday, March 8, at three p.m.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride chose an empire
gown of gossamer silk with a
Victorian neckline, elbow -length
sleeves. A cardinal train, falling
from the shoulders was tiimme;
with matching hand.clipped
guipure lace; also two vertical
stripes of lace on front of dress,
around neck and around sleeves.
Hell- four -tier _scallop. silk..illusion
veil •was held with rose and
petals sequin trimmed. She
carried »a bouquet of orange
delight roses with hyacinth
sprigs throughout the flowers.

Dungannon, was matron of

Mrs. Arthur Dariahy, of London,
sister of the bride and Joanne
Thompson of Dungannon, sister
of the bride. They wore identical
dresses of melon shade silk
organza over taffeta with short
sleeves,, a,nd empire, , , waist„.
trimmed with white mattelsa.
Their headpiece•was a bow made
of the same material. They
carried a crescent of white mums
tinted melon to match dresses.
Bonnie Thompson of
Wingham, niece of the bride, was
flower girl. She wore a white
dress"of silk organza over taffeta
with short sleeves and empire
waist, trimmed with white lace
and a white bow in tier hair. She
carried a posy of white mums
with orange delight roses
throughout the bouquet.

Auburn, was groomsman. Ushers
were Donnie . Glenn of
Richmond Hill and Vernon
Glenn of Goderich, , both
brothers of the groom and Ron
Thompson of Wingham, brother
of the bride.
The soloist . was. Diane
Errington who sang "The Lord
Is Mr Shepherd", "The Lord's
Prayer" and "O` Perfect Love."

white mums and mint bells. with

corsage of yellow roses.
The groom's mother wore a
blue linen dress with
three-quarter length lace coat,
white .straw hat and corsage. of
pink roses.
For travelling, the bride chose
a double-breasted, three -quartet
teal blue suit., black accessories
and pink orchid' corsage.
