Hart Be Careful With That Spray! What happens to that cloud of?'Mist you spray from an aerosol container? If you could v°vatch a greatly magnified view, you would see that it doesn't just evaporate into nothingness in the air. Instead, it settles on,the nearest surfaces. The mist may be breathed in by little children in the room. It may settle on uncovered dishes, on.,food beitg prepared, or on the tops of 'mugs of milk or glasses of soda pop. It will settle on counter tops, table tops, -all of the surfaces where, when you have. finished spraying, you may be working . Be extra"'careful°with sprays, whether using th.eni inside or out- side the house, says the' Council n en Family Health, a non-profit organization sponsored- by mem- hers of the drug industry as a public service, to promote safety in the home and family health. What's the first thing .to do when using any spray? Read the label, read every word of it, and follow ' directions exactly. You may find that some insecticides contain flammable chemicals. The label may advise you not to • smoke and tu' turn off any open fires such as stove burners. when ' spraying. You may be cautioned to spray away from yourself to avoid in haling the insecticide. If you are using the spray out-of-doors, there may be a caution to stand upwind from thearea into which you are spraying. Before spraying, send the chil- dren out of the room. Out-of- doors, keep them at a good dis- tance from the area being sprayed. Cover or remove all exposed .dishes and food. Cover or remove bird baths, dog dishes and fish bowls. After spraying, wash counter and table tops before preparing food, or serving food,on them. When you have finished using the insecticide, vor any other spray, store it out of sight and reach of small children. Maple syrup time Ontario maple syrup time is here again, reminds the Food Council, Ontario Department of Agriculture -and Food. When you • buy a "supply of "this season's - excellent ' maple syrup, make • sure that you protect its delicate - flavor with proper storage. Once the maple syrup container has been oPened, store it in the refrigerator. If a sugary crust should form on top of the syrup, , heat the syrup ' gently • until the harmless sugar crystals - dissolve • • For a real treat, glaze your Easter ham with maple syrup. When the ham, is almost done, "baste with maple syrup. Add -cloves-1T "desired; and "t turn" to - the' oven to finish the baking time. The sausage 'neat can• also be used in many casserole and stuffing recipes. However, since freezing does intensify the flavour of some seasonings, it is best to use frozen sausages and sausage meat within 3 or 4 weeks. - BAKED SAUSAGES To bake pork sausages, arrange them in a greased baking pan and cook hi a 400 degree oven for about 20 minutes or, ' until nicely browned and weli done.• • DEAR ANN° LANDERS: I have just recovered from the holidays sufficiently so that I can write a fairly sane letter. We have had company, starting with the mob that moved in on us for Thanksgiving straight through Christmas and most of January. Now I don't mind company, Ann, but what .I do mind is when the men rush away from the table to the. TV, carrying their plates,. the minute a football game- starts. For example: T slaved over that Christmas meal for four hours, and in five minutes, half the guests had left the table. They returned during the commercials long enough to pile up their plates, then they ran back to the TV. Don't you think we wives should holler about this lack of consideration? — SALT LAKE FURY DEAR FURY: Hollering won't help. Your best bet is to schedule dinner before or after the games. Nothing, I mean nothing, can keep devoted football fans away\ from the TV when , the important games are on. You wouldn't believe what some of those goofs have ttlrned down because they'd rather watch a bunch of hulks 'kick a ball around a field. DEAR ANN LANDERS: I read your column in the Tokyo newspap,„e>4, the Asahi Evening News. Recently you responded tp a reader who complained that her husband snores. In your answer, ' you made the statement that you yourself do not snore. How do you know? Have you ever stayed up and listened to yourself? - My wife has been snoring her o head off for years. When I told Snores • Y O her to see a doctor because she was interfering with my rest, she insisted I was crazy — that she did nnot„snore, So, one night I borrowed a tape recorder from of "friend and obtained the evidence. My wife is Japanese. So don't' let anybody tell you that their sleeping habits are different from anyone else's. Stie snores in steroe, just like the Americans. And for your information, Ann, those block pillows are called Taka Mura and .they are used only on the wedding night. Japanese brides wear, large heavy wigs and pig Take Mura protects the hair from getting messed up. Sometimes. We enjoy your column over here. Keep it ' up. -- O. W. YOKOHAMA DEAR O. W.: Your letter is additional evidence that when one in s Oreo considers the similarities' of people all over the world, ra.tlter than their differences, we are all brothers and . sisters under the skin. DEAR ANN LANDERS: A certain man in his office is famous for exaggerating and I suspect he lies a little, too. When his stories become a shade too incredible, he takes an .oath on his dear mother's grave, Yesterday I learned his dear mother is alive and well and livint in Pheonix. Shall I tell "him? -- 'BOTTSIE DEAR BQTTSIE: Don'ttell, him. Merely suggest teat he find out who they buried b cause you have learned his dear mother is in Arizona. Phone 524-9521 ROY- N.
