Spring in Canada is pure fe-
`male; unpredictable, perverse,
passionate, tibt-or=eo}d, cruel -
or -kind. And completely unde-
pendable, as far as mood goes.
In this crazy climate, I have
lain on fresh grass in March

'suggested the following month
would be July. -And I have
-.gone fishing on the first of
May and had my line freeze to

There. Having expressed my
mistrust of Canada's Spring. I
shall 'return to our theme:
love.
This is a favorite topic for
poets who, can't think of any -

being 'a Poet, I will avoid•
trying to be poetic and thereby
save both of us a lot of embar-
rassment. .

Love is not- a potion: it's a

Mecca toward which you trav-
el, and from which you return,
rather wondering whether th,e
whole trip was worth it. Sand.
and.flies and heat. And nobody
else there but a mob of ex-
hausted, hot, «tired And. dis-
gruntled pilgrims like yourself.
That's love.
See? I've just begun. r hav-
en't even mentioned hot bon-

list for yourself, and you'll de-
cide you're not such an ole'

New five year plan approved for
Arthritis and Rheuniatism Society `1
An integrated plan- for the
co-ordinated development of the
Canadian Arthritis and
Rheumatism Society's program
for the five years 1970 to 1974
was approved by the National
Board of-Directo,, at a special
two day meeting held in
ToWnto in mid-February.
- Coming from coast to coast, 48'
volunteers and staff were present
to represent all provincial
divisions.
"The Society's objectives
have remained unchanged in the
twenty years of it's existence," it
was pointed out by L. D.'Fraser,
president, "but the relative
emphasis , assigned . to various
programs and methods must
continue to change m
accordance with changing
circumstances." The program for
the next five years will • give
greatly increased impetus to the
development of the rheumatic
disease units now in existence at
seven Canadian ,medical schools,
he, said. The program for the
next five years gives highest
priority to expanding support
for clinical research and other
educational activities designed to
improve the training of doctors
and other health worl,,.ers in the
arthritis field, the establishment
of improved standards of patient
care, and the developr'ilent of
more specialists in
rheumatology.
When the five year program is
completed, there will be a
rheumatic disease unit in most
1•
major medical centres in -most
cprovinces. Such units which
involve research, education,
patient care and professional
leadership are the focal points of
arthritis . control programs for
the regions in which they are
located.
The services provided to
arthritis patients directly by the
society, will become increasingly
a charge ' on _provincial
governments.' In several
provinces, governments already.
bear 90 per cent or more of
these costs. It is expected this
will be the case' in all provinces
within the next two or three
years. The contributing funds
thus become increasingly
available for use in the search for
the pause and cure of arthritis
and the - other rheumatic
diseases.
"I think it is only fair to sax
that we are on,the threshold of,
achieving the ° world's best
arthritis control program," said
Edward Dunlop, executive
-director of the society. "This is
what our medical advisors tell us
lies ahead, if only; we can attain
the goals established in the new
five year program," In practical
terms, he said that this mould
require' ' the society and
co-operating institutions and
professions to accomplish as
much in the next five, years as
had been accomplished in the
previous 20.

'The'hard earned estate you leave behind is -
too important to be entrusted to inexperienced

incapacitated. It happens every day.
But not here, because at Victoria and Grey Trust,
your estate management problems, big and
little, are the responsibility first, of a friendly,
sympathetic trust officer you get to know, and
second, of a team of competent, trained
