Dancers gently swayed their way around the Eiffle Tower passing ' the ornamental facade of Place de la Concorde. It was Paris with a capital "P'. 'The ` scene was Parisienne, atmosphere was Parisienne. The effect was superb.,, It was- the 17th annual "At Home" of Goderich District , Collegiate Institute. Gue were -greeted by' Stude Council president David If;oyal, Sue Bissett, 'John White, Betsy Jerry, , Huron " County School Board representative Dan Murphy with Mrs. Murphy, and school principal -John Stringer and Mrs. Stringer. On the balcony' above mini -skirted 'French" waitresses, corr�pletewith berets, ,served refreshments -at . two `bistros" with checkered; cloths on the tables and candlelight to set the mood. v. A ball isn't 'a Bali without a queen and at midnight..thelights dimmed, ' the crowd gathered around .the throne, dias and waited for the annSuncet ent; Finalists fpr Linda Barlow, Patti Ladd, Shirley Homuth and Brenda East. David Royal made -the annoucement and' the croi,, n was placed on the head of winner Patti Ladd'by last year's queen. Mary Duckworth. The Queen and her princesses were presented with flowers and gifts and led the dancing with a waltz. Chief credit for the' decorations must go to Claudia Elliott who was assisted by the - student body. Girls spent countless ,hours making the flowers and trees and helped in painting the giant backdrops for the street scenes. The boys p€ „ the school devoted their time to the heavier work of manufacturing and erecting the replicas . of the Eiffle Tower; Arc de' Triomphe . and the.; backdrops. In all it was t2 concerted effort bz_thestudent which resulted in tele best "At Home" the school has seen in the 17 years the ball has been held. Perhaps the best ' testimonial came from orchestra leader Gordon cooper, who, with his musicians, provided' the music. The crowning of the Queen was held at midnight during' the 17th Annual At Home of GDCI held last Friday night. Left to right are Linda Barlow, Mary Duckworth, last year's Queen performing the crowning ceremony for Patti Ladd, Queen. of the Ball; Shirleii Homuth and Brenda East. The Queen and her prihcesses received bouquets of flowers and 'gifts. Guests entered the auditoriuin of GDCI and crossed a bridge over the "Seine" last Friday night for the At Home dance. Receiving were, Left to right, Mrs. Dan Murphy; Mr. Murphy, Huron County' Board of Education representative; Mrs. John Stringer and school principal Mr. Stringer; John White, Betsy Jerry, David Royal, president of the student council and Sue Bissett. The terrace was divided into cafes with pretty "French" waitresses serving refreshments to their guests. Taking their ease for a brief rest at one of the "Bistro" bars, were, left to\ right Pat Adams, Janice Sowe y and Lynda Longhurst. P�? i�.'� • It was not all dancing for patrons of the At Home-dalibelfIGOCI last week as revellers took time out for refreshments at one of the "Bistros" set up on the balcony of the auditorium. The cafes did a roaring business and were a great success. _. k The decor at 'the GDCI At Frame Ball was right out of this wor Well, almost. It was out of the country with the theme "Pans'''.
