The-Goderich Siftos took two
differeht paths but would up at
the same dead end last weekend.
On Friday, playing the
Strathroy Rockets here, the
Siftos didn't start skating until
midway through the second
u period and by then it was too
late to overcome the six "goal
lead the Rockets had built up.
In Waterloo on Sunday, the
Siftos came on like gangbusters
and held a 4-0 lead well into the
Second period before they began
to fade. The Siskins scored six
straight to take a 6:4,decision in
that one. •
Friday's game didn't give the
home town fans much to cheer
about. The Siftos came up with
a generally lack -lustre 'effort.
The defence was .porous; the
forwards lacked aggressiveness
and the goaltending was suspect.
The Rockets, on the other hand,
came up with one of their most
productive evenings, -"turning on
the red light a total of 11 times.
They got off to an early start
scoring on their first shot on the
Sifto het with only 46 seconds
having elapsed in the opening
period. , Defenceman, Al•
Johnson, scored the goal on a
shot from the blueline.
"Carp" Fisher put the Siftos
on an even footing when he got
one back- at 5:59, jamming the
puck into the Strathroy net
following stops by goalie Tom
Benner on- Brian Rumig and
Murray Henderson.
' Strathroy scored four
unanswered goals before the end
of , the first period. Terry
Holbrook, assisted by Bryan
Wilson took advantage of some
loose • clearing in front of the
Goderich net to score the first of
these. Wilson s of ,the second coed at

12:11. Brian Smith beat Al
Carter on the glove side and
Holbrook got his second goal,
' .courtesy of a big rebound left
lying in front of the Goderich
goal, giving the Rockets a 5-1
lead at the end of the period.
The Rockets picked -up two
more goals early in the second
•'with Wilson and 'Johnson each
getting their second of the night.
At 'this, poin`t, coach John
Masan --replaced goalie, A1•Carter,
in the- Siftos' net with Jim
Steele. The move seemed to
spark the locals and for the first
time in the game they started to
hustle,
Wayne Loney cashed in on
Carrs Colquhoun's redound' at
9:48 to cap a Sifto flurry around
the Rocket. goal. Ted London
cancselled that one at the 15
minute mark, but the Siftos
-came back again when Dennis
Martin backhandeda. shot bat
went in off Benner's glove Rind
at 16:17.

• Glen Nicholson raised the
Sifto output to four goals when
he. -moved in from the right side,
after taking a' perfect pass from
Jim Gratto at the blueline.
In Waterlog on Sunday, Sifto
Rick Fremlin gave a hint of
things to come early in the first
period. He scored one goal that
was disallowed because the puck
had been pushed ahead_ to trim,
with a gloved hand. Seconds
later, Fremlin hit the post with
• the goalie beaten.
The Siftos held a wide edge in
play throughout the first period
and were skating and hitting
• with a degree of vigour they
never attained in the Strathroy •
game.
Wayne Fisher scored the first

first period. Fisher carrried the
puck into ,the Siskin\ zone,
passing to „Wayne Loney who
shot. Brian Rumig blasted a
second shot at Don Olmstead
who picked it out, but- Fisher
