More Disabled Adults
Are Placed By
March Of Dimes
Disabled. adults placed in
competitive P employment and
sheltered workshops during
1968 by the Rehabilitation
Foundation for the Disabled :
(March of Dimes) totalled
183,.,. it is announced by
Geoffrey P. Dewar, president
of the organization. This was
9.6 , per' cent ' more than in
• the previous year. In • 1967
there •was 167 placed.
"This is a satisfying
although nibodest
..improvement," . said Mr.
'Dewar, "but we've come .a
long way ' ' since 1963 when
the total was only 72". The
improvement was partly due.
to. the opening of a, third
assessment workshop in
London; - in addition tothose
in Toronto and Hamilton,
and to the opening sof a new
workshop in Kingston during
1968. There are ° now ten
workshops, the others . being
in Kitchener, St. Catharines,.

Sudbury, Timmins, Port •
Arthur and Sault Ste. MarieY, '
An eleventh will be opened in
Windsor Sven:.
Mr. Dewar ' said ' that the

reflects the Fc undation's
Changing rot. "During 196$;''-'
he „s'aid, ,'15-Xovincial
government _services completed
the takeover of our. casework,
and in doing so released more
of our energies and resources
for our prime concern, which
is rehabilitating dis,ble adults
•
by helping them to get back
to work. We expect that
during the coming months
and year, our record of
placements will be increasingly
satisfying, both to the public
and to ourselves."
The Foundation will also
be giving more attention to
research and to recreation -
services, according to ' Mr.
Dewar. "But work for the
disabled will continue to be
our main - interest," he said:
"We expect that our
workshops will continue to
increase in number too as :the
demand for good workers on
the part of industry grOWs
ever larger."
