Ron Feagan Might Have Made
The Big League In Hockey
Playing centre on -a line kith
Paul Henderson and. Larry
Jeffery, Ron Feagan helped the
Goderith" midgets win an
Ontario championship.
Henderson and 'Jeffery went.on
to become stars in the National
Hockey' League and there is a
good possibility that Feagan.
could have joined them.
However, at 16 years of age,
after a brief stint in junior
hockey, Feagan decided that,
harness racing, not hockey, was
the career he wanted to follow.
It would appear that his
25
choice was a good one: At ''(3 he
had become, a super -star among
racing_, drivers. On December 12•
of last year he guided Homer Hy.
'to victory. thus winning his
200th race of the season. It was
the fourth year iiia row that he
had sustained that .record. In
1965 he won 213'races; in 41.966
he won 223, and last year 218,
No other Canadian driver has
ever equalled this record and
only two U.S. drivers have gone
over the 200 mark for four
consecutive years.

On November 12, 1968,
Feagan became one •of the few.(
Canadians (and certainly , the
youngest), 'to chalk up 1,000
career races.
Feagan grew up on a farm
outside of Goderich. While he
was still young* he had the
opportunity of .studying the
styles of beth his father and
grandfather as •they drove the,
Western Ontario circuit:
Ron admits. that driving is not
a
esy: "I drive night after night
and it's `never boring", he said.,.

Being the top driver ',on, the

for a lot of boos and he expects

remains the leading . driver Ron
Feagan will be expected to win
every time out. .
