President Bruce Sully, in making the announcement, stat. ed that his company would henceforth be better equipped to provide . their customers with faster and more efficient ser. vice. The Goderich branch of the DRM Sales company maintains a fleet of nine service vehicles 9hout= Ontario,.. of-. which five are presently operated ' from `.heir local sales and ser. vice centre. Four different vehicle types are, represented in the DRM Sales Company's local fleet. Each of them is used for a specific purpose. A half -ton truck is used for hauling worn-out or 'rebuilt diesel engines to or from their destination. For heavier loads, such as a grader transmission, which weighs nearly 2000 pounds, ton trucks are used. The company._:also operates a station wagon 'which is used by a representative for making courtesy calls. DRMCO mechanics drive another model, known as a uti. lity vehicle. Built along .the lines of a panel truck, this van -type vehicle carries an ex. pensive cargo. The DRM Sales company pre- sident estimated that this ve- hicle carries about$5000. worth of tools acid 'equipment. The company, has about $3000, in. vested, • he said, and the mechanic owns the other $2000. worth. The DRM 'Sales Company was established 19 years ago as a separately owned subsidiary firm. It sells and services throughout Ontario, the Cham- pion like of road graders, mann. factured by the parent company, Domion Road Machinery Co. Thd original road grader manufacturing company was founded at Hamilton in 1886. It transferred its operation to Goderich in 1913. The first graders mann• factored by DRMCO were de- signed to be pulled by horses. With the coming of the automoo tive age in the 20th centur2y, the company converted its grader to gasoline motor and '-later, diesel powered models. In recent years, the Champion `Th;_line of diesel road graders Manufactured at Goderich have been sold to provincial and municipal • governments all across Canada. Sales of Champion road graders are not restricted to Canada. They have been sold to many countries in South Am. erica, Africa, Europe and Aus- tralia. us.tralia. DRM Sales Company branch. es are widespread throughout Ontario. At Windsor, NorthBay and Toronto, are to be found three of their largest sales and service centres in Ontario. From their Toronto' branch, - located near Malton airport, DRM Sales personnel can ex- press an urgently needed grader part by airplane to practically any provincial capital within a matter of hours. The DRM Sales company at Goderich has often used the facilities offered at nearby Sky Harbour airport. When a defer. tive road grader in some remote corner of the province suddenly breaks down, the municipal of. ficials: who purchased it from DRM Sales company, expect and demand quick response. If .necessary, the company will hire a Sky Harbour pilot to fly one of their mechanics to the trouble zone. On one occasion, a. township official near Sudbury contacted the Goderich DR.M Sales office and requ'*sted immediate re. pairs to their municipal road grader. A, diesel mechanic was flown to the spot. He arrived. at his destination by '7:00 a.m,. made the necessary repairs and was returned to Goderich in time for his noon -day meal. Rebuilding and overhauling motorized road graders, of any manufacture, represents an. other important phase of the company's operations. At their ; Goderich plant, located at the corner of" Victoria and Brock streets, two graders are pre. sently undergoing repairs. However, the company's staff of machinists, welders and diesel. mechanics must spend many hours of labour on these machines before they •can be sold again as "reconditioned". EXPERT T.V. Call OGERS ADIO EPAIR Tree Of Nineties Wes Simple Ever wonder just what old- time.rs were talking aboutwhen they spoke of a "real old-fash- ioned Christmas tree?" Back in the 1,890's, it seems, Christmas trees were both Charming and simple. At the very top of the tree was a gilded, sparkling s t a r. The branches were adorned with such things as streamers, flags, popcorn and cranberries strung 'together, chains of gold and silver paper, candles in holders (we don't recommend this, seems a fire hazard), pep- permint canes, strips of gold paper, Santa Claus dolls, an- gels 'and cornucopias ("horns of plenty") filled to, the brim with candies. Hard candies like sourballs and peppermint canes were the typical '/penny candies" or the Nineties. The canes were placed right,on the tree, the sourballs either hung in little • bags or used to stuff the gifts such as wagons and drums at the base of the tree. 1-113IsT N S anta's pack holds a special message from us, to you.-- good uui~shes for a wonderful "holiday!
