Recently you stated • the record for late child-bearing was held by a woman 53 years of age, I know a woman who gave birth to a child at the age 90, Her name was Sarah. Her husband, Abraham, was 100. - Let's see .your fancy Har. yard medical consultant bail you out of this one, Baby,. -THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT ig° Dear Nothing Kl3ut.- I wouldn't go to my Harviird medical consultant with this one because it is not a medical matter. It's a mat. ter ofbibicalinterpretation I consulted two dis. tinguished rabbis and was told there are several ex. planations. x Take your choice. Ft a thousand years ago, time was re- ckoned, according to lunar months. The 1'00 -year old man -in the Bible would be considerably younger ac. cording to preset{t-day cal. culations. Then there is the age-old question of whether one in. terprets the Bible literally or assumes these stories were made up to illustrate a point. It was interesting to me, that Sarah named her late arrival Isaac Whish means "laughter" because at first she didn't believe she could beregnant and thought it wag a joke. ' The Bible doesn't say when Sarah stopped laughing, but Tr'll bet it was shortly after she received the definite word. * * * Dear Ann Landers: I'd like to respond to the widow who asked,' "Where are the decent, • eligible men hiding?" Be. cause they are so obviously shopping for .a husband that one can't escape the, sales pitch let alone the self pity, long enough to see the woman as a person. I'm not interested in —buying. a permanent house. keeper and I'm not about to .harry a,,, woman because I feel sorry for her. Remarkably few unclaimed and unattached females have anything to offer beyond phy. steal femininity'. Their minds have stagnated at the 21 -year. old level. They know nothing about art, music, literature, science', •current events or pol. • itics. They are superficial and dull - unable, to talk about any. thing beyond last night's TV programs. And I might add a woman who joins clubs and church groups,to meet a man is pretty much of a creep her. wself.SIONED- WILLING BUT DbSILLU. Dear W But D: Surely there are widows and divor- ced' women around who can ' talk about something be- sides lapt .night's TV pro. grams If you don't see thet's because you don't want to see them. I suspect a truly bright woman might threaten your bachelor sta. tus, which would really un. hinge you, in spite of your protestations. Stay single, fella.
