ings held a joint banquet in; the
High School cafeteria on Fri.
day night.
Last year, in their first
year, the Juniors were the door.
mats for the league and were
not considered on the same
,lofty plane as the Seniors. This
year, however, it was a different
story.
The Juniors proved that they
were formed to play and in
every' outing they cam to play
and play they did. So proficiently
did they follow the teachings
of their coach Ray Donnelly that
they came away Champions of
the Junior League.
The- .Senior Vikings on the
other hand were twice beaten
by the W Ingham squad and con—
sequently did not even get a
good shot at the Huron -Perth
title.
The banquet this year had
an' untisual twist in that a for-
mer player of the Senior Vik.
ings showed head coach Wayne
Horner just how much he had
learned under Mm when he

ball at GDCI and how much he
had taught him in his years
under him, Coach Donnelly was
high in his praise of his Junior
Charges -as they had been county
ted out almost. from the start
of the season. Showing"whathas
become GDCI tradition he said
you gave it .everything you had
in every minute of every ball
game. You came back and beat
the teams that you had to beat
and made.. everyone look up to
you as quite a football team.
Senior Coach 'Wayne Horner
also had words of praisefor the
Junior team and said he was
certainly . looking forward to
having them graduate to his
team in • the near future. He
said he felt that the Seniors
would be champions next year
with the personnel who would
be returning and with those who'
were coming from a champion-
ship Junior team. The senior
team also came in for praise
as they never gave up, at any
time and with a break in the
weather for those crucial
games, said Horner they "would
be here as champions tonight,
not as also -cans.''
Coach Horner also ate a little
crow in his address to the
players: He said that early in
the season he stated this had
to be the worst football team
he had ever seen and he would
now certainly have to amend
this remark considerably.
Principal John Stringer ad.
dressed the" group, briefly and
• was high in his praise of the
cheerleaders in attendance. He
said they added more spiritand
vocal support to the team than
in any .previous year. To the
football players he said, they
had never given up at any time,
which was an outstanding quality
to carry through life. ' It is one
thing to be -at the top he said
-and quite another to stay there.
Determinatioh, resourceful-
ness and restraint are qualities
that show up in 'football and
. these must be carried through
life to be successful, said the
principal.
Guest from the GDCI school
board was Dr. R. W. Hughes.
He also praised the young athe.
letes for their achievements and
told them that the board and
the school were indeed proud
of them. He paralleled football
to life and told them thatunless
a team ets together it doesn't
win; unless you get along with
people you will not get very far
in life, he said.
Several trophies were pre.
sented during the evening. The
Huron -Perth Junior Trophy was
presented by Mr. Horner to the
captain of the Junior team Dave
Royal. Mr. Stringer presented
Pat O'Brien with the Most Val.
uable Junior Lineman award
from Mr. Donnelly. Dave
Brereton was chosen the Most
Valua&ile Senior player and was
presented with a trophy by Mr.
Shrier. The Most Valuable
Senior 3 Lineman was Bob
Wilkin, who received his award
from M r. Donnelly.
A dance .in the school gym
