R.R. Sallows Was Camera Artist
The late Reuben R. Sallows
of Goderich, acknowledged in.
his own time to be an artist
with the camera, is' only now
being accorded the acclaim he
so justly deserved. Many of the
photos in this issue of The'
Signal -Star, portraying bits of
the history of the town and• dis.
tr.ict, were his work, He was
particularly noted for his scenic
views and was one of the early
practitioners'of the "human in.
terest" type of photo in which
engaging scenes a went . right to
the heart of -the viewer.
Through courtesy of a daugh.
ter, Mrs. Charles Saunders of
Goderich, these samples of his
work give some indlcation-of.
the lovely scenes he turned out
so prolifically.

but serviceable camps.

French River district scene
conveying a sense of peace ana.
quiet amidst the natural and
at that time almost unsullied
beauty of the bush country. Log.

their -heyday as may be seen

being loaded on flat cars for
the ride to the sawmills some-
where in the north.
At centre left is • a lovely

young and lovely lady.
At lower right is a scene
no doubt taken' in the Goderich
area where .Reuben R. Sallows
did so many photographs of
artistic merit which only now
are being fully appreciated by
many publications throughout
Canada. His work has been
less frequently described as
outstanding, and "many years
ahead of his contemporaries".
