'Cause Many Penny Sale Prizes M.aclCay hall was the setting for the Goderich women's hospital tea and penny fair held Thurs. day, June 8. Guests were re. ceived by Miss `Beatrice Larder, president of the auxiliary, and Mrs. N. G. McIver, oyeral con. vener of thetea and penny fair. Pouring tea were Mrs, Frank McArthur and Mrs. J. C. `Cutts two members of long. standing. Mrs. Leo Walzals, convener of. the tea room, and her assisailits, dressed in centennial •costumes; served guests at attractively de. corated tables•With centrepieces of colored mums 4and candles. Mrs, E. G. Pridham.and Mrs. J. W. McLarewwere flower cQn• veners; convener Of 'kitchen, was ' Mrs. George MacEwan. The bake table, convened . by Mrs. Reg. Burrows, were well patronized. Mrs. Frank Walkout and Mrs. Frank Bowra presided at a sundry table. CONDUCTDRAW At the conclusion of the tea hour; Mrs. McIver,, assisted by, Mrs. G. C. White', `conducted the penny fair draw. The prize -win. ning tickets were picked by Miss Elizabeth MacEwan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter- MacEwan. A gratifying sum of money was realized which will be used to. ward's purchase of modern'equip• ment for the hospital.' PRESENT AWARDS The highlight of the eveningwas the presentation of awards by the teachers and leaders of the organization. The ..awards, pre. sented to a large number of the young people, represent many hours 'of study by the recip. tents •in such, subjects as first aid, citizenship, social etique. tte, church history and doctrine, and Christian living. A brief musical interlude by the Crusaders preceded the ser. mon, which was delivered by the pastor, Rev. A. R. Harley. In his short address to the young _people, Pastor Harley nsaid: "Each of us is offered the chance of 'making life worthwhile. Young • people today, • especially, have opportunities never known before to make life rewarding. But in a world so full, of anxiety and tension, every young man • and woman needs to have a rich and sound faith in God as a foundation for life." He went on to say, . "The .purpose of the Christian Youth Crusaders -pro. gram is designed to furnish such a faith for each of its members. The purpose of the leaders is to train the young people under their care to be better and more useful Canadian Citizens, ,with standards of ,conduct and living based upon Christian principles" After the sermon, the members affirmed their vows in response .to the charge delivered by the C.Y.C. director, Mrs. Cornish.
