What promises to be on'e of the most entertaining events of
Goderich's "old home week" • will a be a softball game played at
.Agricultural park between the Firemen of the Goderich Industrial
league 'and a team composed of National hockey league players.
Come-'• to .think - of it, a- game such -as--this seems quite fitting for,
this towti hien, as was pointed out in a previous column, there
are three NHL players in our midst representing three different
NHL clubs, in the persons of Larry Jeffrey, Paul Henderson and
Gary Doak. .
It's understood here that each of . these NHL'ers have persuaded
one or two of their formerlinemates to join forces with them when
they take on the local industrial league softball team for what
,should be a fun.filled exhibition game on the afternoon or evening.
of July 8.
During a brief visit,to Jeffrey's beach -bar last Sunday, we gath.
ered the -names of the other NHL -athletes. who will abandon their
familiar hockey stick ,and puck to display their 'skill on the ball
diartiond.
Here are the names . of the other National hockey league play.
ers who are expected to participate in the July 8 softball con.
test: New York will be represented by 'Rod Selling; Murray Oliver

iveBoston Bruins two re;,i'esentatives; Paul Henderson is bringing
Dean, Prentice from the Detroit Red,.wings; ,Bob Pulford and Jim
Pappin along with Larry Jeffrey will give the Toronto Maple 'Leafs
a 'good showing and we understand that Chicago wlll be represented
by Pit Martin.
Don't forget that date, July 8, sports fans: it,,promises to be one
the sports.highlights of• our ideal centennial celebrations.

' It was a pleasant surprise to receive a short note from a former
Goderich baseball<<rplayer, whose memory span? the years to
1922 when he recalls having played with the Purity Flour spon.
sored baseball club here. •
L. H "Dingo" Haynes writes in his note; " 'It's just 45 years
ago that the Purity Flour baseball 'teain met the Zurich team on
May 24th and beat them 3.0."
If any. Goderich old-timers who knew or played with Mr. Haynes
on 'the town's baseball team during the early twenties would like
to get in touch " with this former Goderich athlete, here is his
