Come-'• to .think - of it, a- game such -as--this seems quite fitting for, this towti hien, as was pointed out in a previous column, there are three NHL players in our midst representing three different NHL clubs, in the persons of Larry Jeffrey, Paul Henderson and Gary Doak. . It's understood here that each of . these NHL'ers have persuaded one or two of their formerlinemates to join forces with them when they take on the local industrial league softball team for what ,should be a fun.filled exhibition game on the afternoon or evening. of July 8. During a brief visit,to Jeffrey's beach -bar last Sunday, we gath. ered the -names of the other NHL -athletes. who will abandon their familiar hockey stick ,and puck to display their 'skill on the ball diartiond. Such. Provincial regulations this year require that all instructors at °1lommunity swimming pools be, 17 years of age or over; they must also hold certificates in life .saving methods in' order to qualify as certified ' swimming instructors. • Staffing the pool this year will be Jeffrey Such, Carolyn Graham and Betty Sheardown. Overall director of the swin,ning and sports program will be Mike Vr9oman. Assisting Mike for the adult .evening swimminginstruct. ions will be Fred Smith. When the formal swimrriiing program gets under way on July 1, ,it is 'possible that as high as 1000 individuals may be regis. tered for the 'summer program.
