.CENTENNIAL FLAVOR
The ladies ,golf section of the
Maitland country club held its
opening dinner on Wednesday,
May 24th. The theme, naturally
was Centennial,. and was carried
out in the • menu; decorations,
entertainment and dress.

was centered with a' small old

A small display of antiques
was centered around the fire.

'The model was wearing a Chris
tening gown loaned. by Mrs. G.A...
Bruce. The' gown was all hand -
worked and embroidered and is •'
believed to be around 150 years
old. Mrs, Bruce's grandmother
was christened in it, as well
as all 'the Bruce family right
up to the present generation.
An embroidery sampler was
worked by Mx. &Bruce's great1
great grandmother, "Isobel Gen.
tle., in the year 1786, the date
being .shown quite plainly in the
sampler. Alarge picture of "The
Courtship of M -files. Standish"
over the mantle completed the
scene.
The hostesses for the even-
ing were in Centennial dress,
as well as a number of the guests
which lent quite a gay air to the • f�
affair. M;•s, Dan Murphy Was
convener for this event, 'and was,
assisted by Della Bedard, Edna
Overholt and Jean Knight. The
section, thanks all w;ioloaned an,

The Hugn Clofton high school
soccer team, managed by Ray
Dayes, will be guests of the Det.
roit Tiger ball. club when they
visit Tiger stadium at Detroit
on' July.. 22 to watch the Tigers
in action against the New York
Yankees. More details of their
visit to Goderich will appear
in a later issue.
