in the 'C' series were 'cleaned' 4.1 by the,
'north -enders' during a playoff match late

at the Memorial Arena. In keeping with the centennial spirit
l8ath annual Young 'Canada tournament •features 100

Ninety,two Of the -teans.are fiiorn Ontario. Othenz ,provinces

represented are Newfoundland with two, Quebec with one and
Manitoba• with one. '.'here_are two teams from Michigan and
oaie from Pasadena, California. Only four of the teams pompet- -
ing here this year are,strangers at the Goderich tournament.
They will all have one chance to play dtt.ring the nine -days"
event. If the .game ends in a tied score, the number of shots
on •goal decides the winner of the m'atoh. Between the start of
one game and the beginning of the next, only an hour vAnd teen
Minutes elapse, thus you get an idea of the tight schedule' by
which the games are played. As in previous seasans,,the teams
are grouped .into, five .categories, dependent on population' of
each of the centres which haveentered teams.

It is estimated that over 18,000 potential hockey stars have
played in the Young Canada Hockey Tournament since it was •
introduced to Goderich and area by Nip Whetstone, Guy Emer-
son, Lorne Wakelin (now in N j , • undland). and the late Nelson
Hil . During'•the 17 seasons it operated prior to this .year's •
tournament, Goder ieh Memorial arena -has dr'awn many of tod 's
N.H.L. players, including such stars as Detroits' Paul Henderson,
New York Rangers' Rod Selling, Boston Bruins' Gary Doak and
Toronto Maple Leafs' Larry. Jeffrey.•
This year, some fortunate pee wee hockey player will. win•a
dc's free tuition at Gordie Howe's hockey school, compliments .

ahead 5.4. Petrolia retaliated about three
minutes later, tying the score. The game

Petrolia; they outshot Goderich 23-18.
