The only variation in quality which will ever be found in "Myrtle Navy" t>ebacco is in the degrees of moisture which it contains. Tobacco is a very ready absorbent of moisture, and in unusual stateslof the weather it may become a little too moist cr a little too dry to suit the taste of some. This is a minor 'natter, however, as the essential quality of the tobacco is not changed. Its :iombustion is a little slower or a little faster according to the degree of moisture, that is all. The darker the plug the greater the moisture, and many prefer the dark. The lecture and social given under the auspices of the Ladies Aid ofNames Street Methodist ebtirell on Thursday evening ]ast was fairly well attended considering the iuelemeney of the 'wea- ther and the other att61e0_9e'ls which were being carried on at the sauce time Many of the coegregatiou andalso the friends of 11'1r. George 1Ttebher, were much pleased to one° more have the privilege of hearing their former past- or deliver his celohtaa.ted lecture, From the'beginning until the tiuish of his speech he held the audience in rapt of such, attention, his remarks being an interesting nature. The ladies also added much pleasure to the evening's entertainment and should not be pass- ed by unnoticed. The proceeds amount- ed to nearly $40. Tho anniversary sermons were de- livered in Cavell Presbyterian ehureh on Sunday last by the Rev. R. J. Beat- tie, of Guelph, to large gatherings at both services, although the weather was sotnewhat disagreeable during the evening. The discourses were in- teresting anal instructive both to young and old Collections amounted to $90. A social will be given under the au- spices of the Ladies Aid Society of Main Street church in the parsonage on Monday evening, April 4th. celebrated by a mammoth Society dem. onstration and sports of a'.1 kinds. For several years Exeter has been noted for rho snccessftil gatherings of this kind, and we believe, should the part- ies who are agitating the question, continue in their labors they will comp out victorious. Why should we allow the young and old to desert the village on days of this kind? Is not there as good material here as elsewhere? We would answer yes and feel justified in doing so. Then let our merchants and others who wish for the prosperity of our villageatheart, unite with these young men, assist them in whatever way they can, and unitedly, let us show places of larger size than we are, that Exeter is still to the front with its usu- al gatherings at home. What attract tone they intend procurirlp; is not known; the agitation has only been started a' few days, and they seen sat- isfied frorn the encouia, gemenit given them by several citizens that the:work Will go on.
