Alex. McLaren, reeve of Hibbert,died on March. 10. Death was the result of. an affection of the stomach, which had caused him serious trouble for about three months. Ile astended the last session of the County Council but his condition was feeble and his health showed signs of failing. Ere was born in Perthshire, Sotland, 70 years' a go, and was one of the pioners of Hibbert township, lie took considerable inter- est in municipel politics and rcpresent- ed his county in the County' Council the first year the county was set apart, namely, in 1853. In 1888 he was el- ected to the warden's chair and filled the office with credit and satisfaction for a gear. He was thoroughly posted on county matters. In politics he was a stamich and lifelong' Liberal. Huron Assizes. St. John, an action for slander arising out of a caso in a magistrate's coutt betvveen the parties, who are both farmers in the township of Hullett.
