mas .y Cherry this year. Most
strains have red berries, al-
though there are some with yellow
berries.
This plant will thrive well
into January if given the proper
conditions. it does best in dir-
ect sunlight and a relatively cool
environment with temperature of •
55 to 60 degrees F. The soil
should be kept just slightly moist
to the touch at all times, but
be careful not to over -water.
After the festive season, the
mature seeds can be removed and
sown in January or February for
the production of next year's
plants. After the seedlings are
about one to two inches high, they
should be pricked out into flats
or pots. When they have three
or four true leaves,` transplant
them into 2 1/2 -inch pots, Late
in the spring after the danger
of frost is past, plunge the plants
out in the garden about one foot
apart. Be sure and supply suffic-
ient water and fertilizer during
the summer to promote steady
growth.
In fall wnen sufficient fruit has
set, dig the plants .and bring
them indoors before heavy frost.
Keep. as much soil around the
roots as possible and place them
in -5. to 64nch--pots in a_ toot
location. Encourage establish.
ment and growth by proper water.
ing and temperatures 4.50 to 60
degrees F. The berries should
turn a bright red or yellow by
- the first of November or early
December.

The more familiar a motorist
becomes with run-of-the•mill
driving situations, the less likely
he is to recognize the dangers
in those situations; according
to the Canadian Highway Safety
Council. This is evident in the
fact that, out of Canada's 1,500,.
000 licenced drivers, more than
1,600,000 are annually involved
in crashesor brushes-7kth• the
law.
Collisions occur under circum.
stances which the average driver
regularly experiences. They in-
clude collisions with the vehicle
behind, the oncotn ing vehicle, at
intersections, while passing or
being passed or simply driving
along with no other traffic near.
The last type is frequently re.
(erred to as the mystery crash
because seldom is there an evil.
ent reason for it. Drivers whoa
survive the one -Car, run-off.the.
road crash are not always able
to explain what happened. Drivers
who do not survive take the cause
with them. During 1965, 1,220
personsiied in this ttym pf crash

jured.
The council recommends that
every motorist use Safe -Driving
Week, Dec. 1 to 7; to study
commonplace situations in
traffic, learn to recognize the
dangers and how to ayoid there.
