The lighting for, .the perfor- mance was extremely effective. One could see the harpist's hands very clearly on the backdrop. The program began with G. F'. Handel's "Concerto in B flat," usually for organ and orchestra, but arranged especially for the haril. One of the arrangers was Such Denies MislH1 ladling Public ..Coun. May Join County Library the world famous harpsichordist, Wanda Landowska. Shadings and echo passages expressed the harp's versatility. "Tic-toc-choc" by Francois Couperin showed the jerformer's • brilliant technique in the almost brestissimo accompaniment, The melody was outstanding, as it should ,be, and the accompaniment was, at all times, a perfect co pliment. Miss Dilling gave a brief and interesting talk on the many harps displayed on the stage. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Betties are enjoying a two week vacation in the southern states. explained that the harp was thought to have evolved from the twanging of a bow string. She also mentioned the slow develop- ment of the harp. The next work was "The March of the Men of Harlech",. arrang- ed -and' played by John Thomas for Queen Victoria at many Buck-,. Ingham Palace parties. Usually sung by a male chorus or played by a brass band, it was none the less effective played' on the harp., "The Fountain" by, Albert Zabel was, to our thinking, real music for the harp. This piece. and "The Forest Pool" by Marcel Tournier painted a picture of bubbling water and subtle inelo. dies. It was most vivid. In the more modern composi- tions great artistry was also shown. I do honestly believe that the harp is the best way to have this music presented to the general public. The singing of "Silent Night" with Miss Dilling's own arpeggio accompaniment made the aud- ience feel a real part of this concert. The concert concluded with an invitation from Miss Dilling again to sing, "God Save the Queen."
