Reporting on the home econom•
ics program in Huron County for°.
• 1965.66 is indeed a. pleasure for
me, as we have just completed
a very successful year.
In our 4.11 Honpemaking Club
section, in which rural girls and
Ming women meet in groups to
carry on a 'study program with
a local leader and an assistant
leader, we have had the largest
increase.
In the fall of 1965 the girls
choose the project "Sleeping Gar.
ments" in which they studied the
selection. of styles and materials
for sleeping garments, the use of
commercial patterns, and var.
ious trims as corded piping, lace,
and eylet; 511 girls enrolled, 486
girls completed, 49 clubs.
"Accent On Accessories" was
the .project given this spring,
1966. This club featured the selec.
tion of accessories to compliment
the individual, the occasion- and
the costume. Each member plan-
ned and made for herself a'set
of co-ordinated accessorieg"such
as a hat, tie-dyed scarf, and
simple handbag; 570 enrolled, 543
completed, 57 clubs,
Presently the girls are taking
the project "The Supper Club".
They are learning how to choose
food for health with, emphasis on
the planning, preparation and ser.
vice of family and club suppers.
Table setting and service is stud-
ied along with the preparation of
supper dishes as salads, fruits,
cream soup, scalloped dishes,
and tea biscuits; 605 enrolled, 54
clubs.
In the past year, the number of

girls taking club, work in Huron
County increased by nearly 100.
The next spring 4•11Homemaking
Club Girls will celebrate Can-
ada's Centennial by taking the
projece fir 'Word' "-of Food in
Canada". In this project the.girls
willstttdy the development of Can,
adian food customs. They will
learn to recognize the traditional
practices of various cultural gr.
oups and appreciate how our food
habits are influenced by Can.
adians of many different back.
grounds.
Club members with commen•
dable work are chosen to attend
and participate in planned ac-
tivities at fairs. Seventeen Club
girls went to Western Fair. 'An
exhibit from the project "Sleep.
ing Garments". was chosen for
the afternoon program.
On Sept. 24, 46 Huron Club
girls attended the program in
Teeswater. We are pleased to
see the increase from last y' ar.
Four exhibits from Huron were
displayed.

The home economics service
works with all age groups from
12 years old to 80, encouraging
your members to take an active
role in farm home activities and
to share responsibility as a mem.
ber of the family group. For our
older members, we hope to help
them acquire new ideas in home-
making, as well as solve a prob-
lem or two.
May I extend my sincere ap-
preciation to the Huron County
Council for your support in this
program.
