Plan (19S0)", based on the re-
sults of the Needs Study under.

y afternoon:
Included in the plan are 13
major projects made up of 51.6
miles of road and five bridges,,
at a total cost of more than
$4,000,000.
('1'he ._cos.,.4f,this work is
difficult to estimate accurately
because we cannot predict the
prices of labour and materials
five or six years from now",
County Engineer d,W. Britnell
said.
He said only the major items
had been listed, as follows;
Reviews
Dress
Beta Sigma Phi met at the home
of Mrs. Agnes Bedard Nov. 8
with 13 members answering the
roll call.
Mrs. Karen Sturdy and Mrs.
Gwyn Howlett gave the cultural
program, "The History of
Dress", which involved clothes
from 1400's to the present date.
Both speakers illustrated their
talks.
Social chairman, Mrs. Helene
Alcock, proposed that members
and husbands meet on Dec. 18
or 19 at the bowling alley for a
social evening,
Lunch was then served by the
co -hostesses for the evening, pre
ceded by the closing ritual.

Systems
By H. L. Baird
If you are buying a new car
tihis year, one of the safety fea-
tures with the most. practical
impact on your daily driving is
the new "dual .braking" system
for the rear and front wheels.
Briefly, the engineers have
not created two systems as such -
but "split" the one master cylin-
der that 'previously brought flu-
id pressure on all four .wheels
into two reservoirs.. One reser-
voir operates the , (rent wheels
and one the back.
If one system fails, the other
will remain untouched and can
stop,4.he car.
T, so that the motorist
willnow if one set of brakes
is not operating, the system
comes equipped with a warning
light that turns on in the event
• a failure of either of brakes.
The system is required by the
U.S. federal government on all
cars purchased for government
use. It also provides a method
oftesting the' warning light in
case it should fail ,before the
„braking system.
Some European auto makers
have divided the braking be-
tween. diagonal front and rear
wheels. This was considered un-
til testing revealed the .front
and back system was superior
for North. American conditions.
The new systema will not mean
faster stops, only insurance
against hydraulic fluid leakage
from the master drum or fluid
lines that previously could ,have
left the motorist with no braking
power at all. It is 'a true bonus
of safety in the new oars. •
