ELLIOTT With members of their family gathered around and friends from far and near dropping in, Mr. and Mrs. HarryT. Williams, of Saltford, happily celebrated they golden weddinganniversary .last week. end, Friday afternoon and evening they were at home to visitors, 'received by their Baugh. ters and daughters-in-law. On Sunday the bride and groom of 50 years ago were guests of honor at a family dinner in the township hall, Carlow, attended by 28. Among those from out of town were Miss Grace limiter, Windsor, and Miss Margaret Rus- ton, Wallaceburg, nieces of Mrs. Williams. Home for the occasion were all the children except one; Law- rence Williams, youngest son, is 'in 'Trinidad and could not make the . journey, but sent a telegram of greeting. The others are Kath- leen, Mrsu. Wilfred FisherofCol- borne, • near Saltford; Donald, of Galt, Gordon, of Corunna; Glenn, of London; Doris, Mrs. Ernest'''. Kirk, of Nipawin, Sask.; Marian Clementine, Mrs. Michael C. Du- da, of Don Mills, and Kenneth C., of Saltford. Mir. and Mrs . Kirk drove from Nipawn, and were pleasantly surprised by the sunny weather here. There are 17 grand. children, of whom 10 were present on Sunday. Henry Talbot Williams, son of Arthur Acland and Clementine Williams, of Dunlop, and Mary Linklater, daughter of John and Phoebe Linklater, also of Col. borne, were married Nov. 18, 1916, by Rev. James Hamilton, minister of Leeburn and Union Presbyterian churches, at the manse on East Street, Goderich.. The bridesmaid was Mr. Will- iam's sister, Clementina, now Mrs. Alfred C. Hines, Toronto, and the groomsman was Mr. L inklater. There was no honeymoon trip to distant points, but the couple put on a bit of style by riding to and from the manse behind Stowe's white horses in a livery carriage. They resided first on Wolfe street -here. Mr . Williams, then 28, had been sailing but decided to stay ashore. He took a job at the Goderich Organ Company, Approve Library (Continued From Page 1) Mr. Thompson stated that a shortage of qualified librarians exists and encouragement should be given to local people who are practical librarians to improve their qualifications along this line. The chief librarian, he said, of course will have to be a fully qualified person at a salary con- sistent with these qualifications. A graph attached to the com- mittee report, indicated iiicreas- - ed circulation in Middlesex County since commencement of the County Public Library Ser- vice. In 1962, before the new leg- islation,' book circulation was un- der 100,000, but it had risen in 1963 to 225,000, and to more than 400,000 in 1964. At the same time, the amount spent by the Coupty of Middlesex had not increased although the province's sharehad 'nearly tripled. Mr. Thompson, chairman of Huron County Library Co- opera- tive Board, in introducing the.' subject, said he thought the ul. timate goal of 11 libraries was integration on a national basis. "Why should not a book„ in a library in Ottawa be brought to a community like Brucefield?" he asked. Everett Mcllwain, Goderich Township, said it was costing $165 a year to service the 11' room school of his township at present, but this would be in- creased to about $1,400, and his experience showed that usually things go up in price. Clerk -Treasurer J. G. Berry said the payroll would go up for librarians and other wages. The System _would have to .maintain buildings, pay rents, buy all the books for all the libraries, and pay a chief librarian .38,000 to $,9,000 a year. Middlesex County system started off at half a mill and is being raised to one' mill next year. Reeve Reg Jewell, .Goderich, said that there was a possibility that his town's Libr. Bary Board might change its mind; it was opposed to the idea at the present time.
