Madge Goderich Siftos came up with two strong games last weekend to defeat the lespeler Sham- rocks twice. In Goderich Friday night to Siftos won 4-1. Sunday afternoon in Hespeler, Goderich defeated the Shamrocks by the score of 6.3. Playing . before an enthusiasv° tic hometown crowd of almost 500 Friday, the Siftos, played solid two-way hockey en route to their first victory of the young season. Captain Brian Ca>;roll scored twice for the local 'squad with singles going to' Ross Forster and Cam C'ol- quhoutl. Hespeler opened the scoring at 1:32 of the first period when Alex Kolopak picked up a loose puck at the side of the Gode- rich goal and jammed. it in the corner past netminder Allen Howes. Defenceman John Pirie, playing his first game for the Siftos, was guilty of poor clear- ing on the play, but it was the only mistake he made all night. Throughout the rest of the game he body -checked with authorityand lugged the puck out of his own end well. His preoence added a steadying in- fluence to the Sifto blue line corps. That early goal was all Hes- peler was to get. Despite hard, aggressive play, they were shut out the rest of the way by a determined Goderich crew. Goltender Allen Howes .again played a standout game for the locals, but the defence was sound and the forwards back - checked well too. The Siftos led 2,1 at the end of the first period on an un- assisted goal by Carroll and Na goal by- Ross Forster, assisted by Tom Deyell and Don Mac- Dougall. There was no scoring in the second frame but there was lots of action. Both teams played wide open hockey and play went from end to end in the kind of "fire -wagon" hockey the fans appreciate. Brian Carroll scored his sec- ond goal of ' the 5 -minute mark of the final period, cashing in on a rebound from Frank Hagan's shot. Jim Farrish picked up the other assist. The final Sifto goal came at 19:59 when Cam Colquhoun lifted a long shot Hear Indian Problems The Maple Leaf. Chapter, 1.O.D.E. held its November meet- ing at the home of Mrs. B. L. Walzak.
