500 Attend SiftosFirst4Game
By R. J. Madge
If the Goderi,h Siftos and
local 'hoelce, fans in general had
any doubts about the quality of
Junior "C" hockey, they were
answered last Friday night.
The Brantford Chiefs, an
established Junior "C" club, shut
out the Siftos to the tune of
7-0 before almost 500 fans at
the Goderich Arena.
Smooth skating captain Mel
Kennedy bagged two goals for
the Chiefs while singles went
to Don Stockdale, Jim Kuhn,
Carl Maloney, John Jennie and
Greg Ernst.
The Chiefs gave an exhibition
of strong two-way hockey and
if the ._Siftos,are_.going to win.
against this calibre of competi-
tion, they are going to have to
play good hockey to do it.
There were a couple of bri gh`
spots for the Siftos, however.
One was the strong skating abil-
ity displayed by the locals. They '
moved well, batlacic of finish
around the net and some daring
defensive lapses ,spelled the
differesce between the ,,two
teams. The Brantford team had
the advantage of having more
players vith jun;or hockey ex-
perience and also had had three
previous exhibition, games.- one
a close 8-7 lass to the Junior "B"
Waterloo Siskins. '
The other encouraging factor
for the Sifto cause was the
Strom -g goat -tend -4w of A
Lowes; a boy from Clinton, who
would appear' to have the inside
track on the starting position
between the pipes. He played
during the third period and
made several goodtop.s. De-
feneeman Dirk Wolterbeek and
forwards Frank Hagen and Greg
Rau also turned in good efforts.
The Siftos played without reg-
ulars Brian Carrell. Don Fisher,
Doug Johnson, Ross Forrester
and Tom Deye 1, With the re-
turn of some of these Players
and a week's more practice, the
Siftos hope to be able to give a.
good ageount of themselves
this Friday as they take on the
Junior "B" Owen Sound Greys
here at the Goderich Arena.

for the Siftos in their exhibition
