I /hie in the county rnioutes a motion
by Meesrs. Steward and Girvin as foll-
owS,."That as the assessments of the
townships is nearly nine times greater
than the assessments of towns and vil-
legate in the county, and as towns and
villages contribute the greater portion
of the indigent, it would be an injust
lee for the townships to contribute pro
retie with the towns and villages for
the erection and support of a poor
house.' --Do the officials of the county
council receive their pay in proportion
of the amount of benefit each_ munici-
pality receives? Does each munici-
pality contribute towarci the general
funds of the county in proportion to
arriOunt of benefit received or does
each municipality pay according to
qualified assessment? If the above
motion be a just one, why is not the
same objection raised to the foregoing
questions, or to the following, saes -
There were in 1884-1071 criminal cas.
esiit towns and villages against 362
in the county. Accordingto the above
motion the townships in Huron would
have to pay nine times as much as the
tovvris and notwithstanding the town
would supply about three times the
number of criminals. Would there
not be ss much justice ia the latter
case as the former? AN 013SnRVER.
