Many Things Raise iood Pressure Temporarily
Many things will raise a.per-
son's blood pressure temporar:
ily, but no one is treated for
the disease known as hyper-
tension unless his blood pres-
sure Ls found to be significantly
above normal on several repeat-
ed observations.
Medical opinion is much divid-
ed an the question of whether
hypertension is a so-called dis-
ease of civilization, perhaps in
same way related to the stress
of modern living.
Primary or essential hyper-
tension seems to result factors,
the effects of several factors.
Among these are heredity, age,
diet, degree of stressful living,
exercise, body, metabolism, and
several very complicated dis-
orders of the body's glandular
system. Primary hypertension
affects about -13 of every 1,000
Canadians, and, causes excessive
damage to the blood vessels of
the heart, brain, and kidneys.
Secondaryhypertenllion, which
accounts for only a small per-
centage of persons suffering
from the condition, may be a
result of disease of the kidneys,
the glanduilar system, congeni-
tal abnormalities of the main
blood vessels, or diseases af-
fecting contrpl centres of the
brain.
The C.M.A. notes that there
are several methods of treat-
ment of hypertension. Many
drugs have been developed
which lower blood pressure to
normal in the majority Of pa-
tients with relative comfort and
safety. By maintaining blood
pressure at normal levels, phy-
sicians can effectively delay or

Sinusitis
There is a good deal of mis-
understanding among the gen-
eral public about sinusitis.
Patients frequently tell a doc-
tor they have sinus trouble
when they have pain in the face
or headache which may be com-
ing from elsewhere than the
spaces in the skull called the
sinuses. Pain Ls a symptom of
inflammation of one of these
spaces but only if norml drain-
age from them is blocked.
A majority of sufferers of
sinusitis have no pain but a
stuffy nose with a yellowish or
eerish purulent ' discharge,
h comes from both the nose
and down the back of the throat
as a post -nasal drip. In other
words, it is a bad cold in the
head which does not clear up in
the usual week or two, but per-
sists and leads to many secon-
dary conditions such as sore
throat, hoarseness or loss of
voice or a chronic cough or
chronic bronchitis.
A complete cure can be
achieved in .most cases of
sinusitis in a relatively short
time. Once a diagnosis is made,
tests will indicate the appropi-
ate antibiotics. When these are
given in adequate dosage, ac -

The truth,
the ,whole truth,
and nothing but the truth
about home heating.
Are you confused about home heating
fuels? What with everybody and his
brother telling you how economical;
convenient, quiet and automatic his
particular system is, you must feel like
flying south for the winter. $ut if you
have to stay and face a cold, hard
winter (like most of us) better read
these cold, hard facts.
Wood and coal are probably the
most economical fuels to' buy—but
they're also the least • efficient. And
sooner or later you'll get tired of slav-
ing over a dirty furnace -then what?
You can choose between a liquid
fuel or so-called "flameless" heating.
Or natural gas. All of them claim to be
the best. Who should you believe?
Initial installation costs are higher
for liquid fuel equipment than for gas.
A gas unit has fewer moving parts,
needs less maintenance and therefore
lasts longer. In order for "flameless"
heating to compete in operating cost,
it requires extra -thick insulation
throughout the home.
If your home had extra -thick insula-
tion, no matter what kind of heating
system you use, you'd naturally cut
fuel costs. With extra insulation or
normal insulation, 'a gas heating sys-
tem means lower fuel 'costs by far.
You never have to order- natural
gas—it's always there. A good,' old-
,
Vin+
fashioned Canadian snowstorm can't
stop natural gas from heating your
home. Storms can -stop trucks, They
can also knock out -power lines—and
very often do. Unless you' have your
own generator, "flameless";heating can
give you the cold shoulder, just when
you need a warm house. Let's face it—
nothing is as dependable as natural gas.
With modern gas heating there are
no hot and cold "layers" of stale air.
Dust and dirt particles can be filtered
from the air and humidity controlled.
Wouldn't you rather have a heating
system that took care of these vital
functions?
When you get right down to it,
modern automatic gas heating has the
edge in just about every department.
But if you're ;,till not convinced, may-
be this will help; if you install a gas
conversion burner in your existing fur-
nace now, or install a brand -now gas
design furnace—we'll spread out the
cost of the installation in easy monthly
payments—over 5 years if need be.
Unless you know someo''ne who'll
chop your wood for free, you won't get
a better deal than this—anywhere!
Wiry not make the switch to natural
gas heating right now.
