Thtlrsday, August 2, 1966 In any game in which a per. sortstrilt;e a balk, a. player is bound •to experience :h o t stretches where his timing . is SQ right he lust can't miss, "And to experience other stretches, where nothing he does is right, no mntter•"how intensively., he concentrates. Part of the skill of being a consistently good golfer is a.piayer's ability to do something definite and con- structive when he, or she falls into a slump instead of per- severing gamely but to no true purpose. To my way of, thinking, the best of all remedies for recover- ing your timing (anti; your swing) is this: go out and practise with your feet set only two or three inches apart. 'This exag- gerated narrow stance has the effect of making you use the correct elements of shotmaking: simplified correct footwork, simplified correct movements of the hands, arms and shoulders. You have to .swing the club; you cannot" substitute raw force for co-ordinated" movement. As a resulat, a player stops straining with the improper elements and begins -to recover almost im- mediately a proper -ense. of the golf,,,swing • and its , timing. I know of no other means of get- ting back into ,the swing of things that is ,comparably ef- fective. The above is Bob's last tip for the year, and the club hopes that all our golfing friends that have followed his advice have somehow benefited from his teachings.. • 'Qhantilly lace over silk with white accessories and a corsage of gold roses.
