Gary Following
Ron's "Hoof" Prints
-How does it feel when your
older brother is the champion
;driver of Canada -'--end lie asks
you to drive a horse that won
for him th,e-=last time out?
Gary Feagan knows the an-
swer to that question, because
he faced the problem Monday
at Garden City Raceway,
The 21 -year-old Goderich driv-
er --came through- like a pro,
winning two races While his
brother Ron was. rang H. A.
Meadowland at Rosecroft, Md.,
•the same• night.
He won with Kit's Kid in, the
first • and Wise Old_ Wick in
the fourth.
, "I feel the, pressure," Gary
said. "The fans yell sometimes.
They. figure I should be able t
do just as well as Rolf. It's
really tough when I'm driving
a horse that Ron has just wan
with." • •
The Feagan boys are building
a formidable stable which they
hope to split into two divisions.
o Ron will campaign at one track
and Gary will move to another
spot. ,
"We have .36 Horses training
here. and five at 'London," Gary
;said. "I don't know how'.
we 'have art home. I haven't been
there for more than a month."
Racing in 'the shadow, of his
older brother hasn't cramped
Gary's style. He's rapidly be-
-corning a top-flight driver in
his own right. Ron who • last
season became the first Cana-
dian driver to ever rein 200 or
more' winners, passes on his ex-
perience to his younger brother.
Gary now has three wins 'at
Garden City.
.Like his ,brother, Gary began
his sports career playing hockey,
but quit- to devote- full time to
training and driving standard-
breds.
B,esides following in his
brother's footsteps,- he's -on the
same • course , his grandfather
George, and father Keith took.
Grandad, 72, is, currently super-
vising the. horses at the family
m in Goderich, and their
father still holds a driver's
license.
