The—stimulating play "The
Green Blackboard" by Nora
Stirling was presented, at the
Goderich Home and School As-
sociation meeting in the Vic-
toria School Auditorium, Tues
day evening. ' The play created
a great, -deal of provocative
thought among the audience.
Mrs. J. Wright of the pro-
gram committee welcomed the
parents and teachers and intrp-
duced the director- of the play,
Mrs. Maurice Jenkins of the
GoderichLLittl.e` Theatre. The
cast for this "Plays for Living"
presentation was Peg, Mrs, Allan
MacDonald; Jay, Adrian Swan-
ton•DSansly, John Williams, ;and
George, Rev. Garwood Russell,
,the basic message of the play
was that inappropriate and pre-
mature pressures on children
can cSiise damage.
The young mother, Peg, was
pressing the sch•gol authorities
at College.
George. Sandy's father, was a
hardworking, .sincere, ambitious,
capable man who was frustrated
by his lack of educational op-
portunity but .was not overly
bitter. „Ale was disappointed
by his son's failure- but doesn't
berate the lad:
Mr. J. W. Coulter, Inspector,
of Public S' hool, lead the dis-
cussion folowing the presenta-
tion. He encouraged the par-
ents 'o think about the under-
lying motives . in the play,' such
as, high value on, academic ex-
cellence, competitivg attitude,
ambitions,' etc. '
Some of the questions' ex-
amined were: What ls• the under-
lying theme of the .play? What
is behind Peg's desire to get
Chuck into Grade • I? Why do
parents want to hurry their
children along? How can we
let up on Pressure and yet give
. Mr. Ralph ,Smith, supervising
principal, ann'annced • that at
the next regular meeting, child-
ren from the Grade' VIII would
present a ' play, "Antics in
Spring"
He ' added that ,,naany- new
books•hawe been added to the
public school libraries which the
Home „and School encouraged
and helped to establish.
