As the daughter. of a Nether-
lands diplomat, Martine van
Hamel, a principal dancer with
the National Ballet of Canada,
spent her childhood being shunt-
ed between continents.

a brief period in between during
which she studied Japanese danc-
ing in Indonesia.

by the Honorable William G.
Davi§, Minister of Education.
and Dr. J. D. MacLachlan, pre-
sident of the University of
Guelph.
Mr. Davis stated that Grade
13 students who are accepted
for this program may be releas-
ed from school on April 7, the
last day of school before the
Easter vacation. He said als
that en amendment to school
.legislation will be introduced
at the next session of the Legis
lature to' cover students involv-
ed in the Pl n. The amendment
will allow ffthe Department of
Education to pay the attendance
grant to a school board for the
balance of the school year for
each student enrolled in the new
Guelph program.
Dr. MacLachlan said ,.that up
to five hundred students from all
over , the province will be ac-
cepted for the spring semester
which runs from April 22 to
August 5, 1966.
The students will be accepted
from those with a term. _average
of not Less than 66% in Grade
12 and also in Grade 13 up to
March. As well, they must be
registered as Grade 13 students
for the first time and have spent
no more than five years in the
Ontario Secondary School Sys-
tem. The students must be tak-

Guelph Matriculation Certiacate,

the statement of Grade 13 stand-
ing by subject that,is sent to -the
university.
While.students who enrol in,
this plan will not beeligible for
those scholarships and awards
(such as The Ontario Scholar-
shipsT which are based on marks
received on C / le 13 Depart-
mental Examinations in June,
they will be eligible fox 4 other
forms of student aid.
Unrversky of Guelph scholar-
ships will be available for these
students. Details will be pub-
lished later. •
The program will also provide
the opportunity to evaluate crit-
eria used for university entrance.
The university has- initiated an
educational research project in,
connection with this early ad=
mission plan and the three -sem-
ester system. This -project will
be carried out in co-operation
with the . Ontario Institute for
Studies in Education.
The University of Guelph is
able to introduce this plan be-
ing all the required subjects for cause it is operating on a three-

has performed a variety of roles
with 'the company., including
leads in the two Bala.nchirfe bal-
lets, "Concerto Barocco" and
"Serenade," the Snow Queen and
Sugar Plum Fairy in the full
length "Nutcracker," and the
fiercely' difficult pas de deux
from "Le Corsaire."
Several summers ago, she
made a guest appearance with

Miss van Hamel will appear in
•the Nutcracker and in several
of the shorter ballets during the
appearance of the company at
the Grand Theatre, London, the
week of January 17th.
