In the attempt to build a modern hospital with , complete
modern facilities in all -departments and with the fast rising
construction costs we find the total cost higher than original
estimates. However in comparing this cost with other hospital
construction on a square foot' basis it proves to he quite com-
petitive. , -
The hospital board feel there is no alternative but to go
ahead considering the condition of the old building which is fak
from adequate and that construction costs will probably continue
to go higher.
You will be pleased to know that on Monday your hospital
board gave approval to the contract 'providing suitable arrange-
ments can be made to take care of the $80,000.00:
It is not desirable to cut the building back or leave essentials
out as these items could not be added again fol• many years when
you consider the 20 -year debt we are incurring.
This leaves the only alternative to have a financial sub-
scription to raise this amount so 'construction may proceed. It
is difficult to put a value on an essential service as a hospital,
however this must be done as we solicit your full financial support
in' a forthcoming campaign.
