Con Men Alert
Police Chief Fred .Minshall'
issued a warning this week con
cerning a gang of confidence
men known to. be operating in
Western Ontario.
The tricksters 'specialize in
defrauding elderly women out
of large amounts of cash.
In London, police and bank
officials recently foiled a scheme
which involved more than $2,000.
The confidence men are known
to pose as bank inspectors and
police officers. The bogus de-
tectives question women about
pension chequesand bank ac-
counts and say they wish to ex-
amine money because of coun-
terfeit bilis in circulation. .
"If anything of . a suspicious
nature` involving money is not-
iced then the person involved
should Contact us immediately,"
said Chief Minshall.

Of.British _Trip
Beautiful, colored pictures of
places he visited while an, a
tour of the British Isles were
flashed on the screen as Sam
Anderson gave vivid'descriptions
of them during a meeting of
the Goderich Lions Club last
Thursday evening.
Accompanied on the trip by
his wife, Sam included scenes
of family reunions in picture-
sque settings both in England
and in Sam's beloved native Ire-
land. . _ Many -of the .A general
scenes of historical spots brought
back memories to Lions origin-
ally from the British Isles or
who had visited there.
Thanks for the photo address,
which included many little hum-
orous and added notes, was ex-
pressed on behalf of the club
by Gordon McManus. .
Chairman of the evening's'
program, was George MacEwan,
a charter -member of the club.
He called ' on Phil Carey who
introduced Sam Anderson and
gave a biographical sketch of
the lather. '
Visitors at the meeting were
18 members of the Grand Bend
Lions Club headed by their pre-
sident, 1'red Willert.
The Goderich club voted in
favor of helping to subsidize a
puppet show for children which
is to be sponsored by Goderich
Little Theatre.
- Among the winners of draw
prizes were Ted Williams and
Jim Coulter.
An "In Memoriam" minute's
silence was observed at the start
-of the program.
The next meeting on Novem-
ber 25 will see Arn McConnell
as chairman. -The program will
include something in the way
of an innovation. District De-
'puty Governor T. MacMillan of
Exeter is to be present and the.
.following new members will be
inducted: Paul Oliver, Sandy
Bisset, Pat Young, Wally Milley,
George Negraiff and Mohan Sud.
