DREAMING OF VICTORY

.._Danny Wallace, Eric Bagnall
and Barry-Ailikas hope to spear-
head the attack for' the team
from M&ntreal 4 suburbs when
they take on St. Thomiass.
"We hope • to wipe -up more
than these dishes," said Eric,
the smallest of •the three boys.
"This is 'the highlight of the
year for us as far as our hockey
Eric, who is 11 and has one
more year •of pee wee hockey,
left, plays centre 'frith billet
friends Danny and Barry on
,'.ext and right wings respective -
The boys ,have played all sea-
son with -their eyes on the "A"
Series title and don't intend to
let anything like a little com-
petition get ir, their way...
"We have travelled a long
way to come ,here and so we
intend to make lie most of it,"
said Danny who has a twin bro,.
ther who plays on the same
team.- -The two wwend - toan-
other billet by mutual request.
"We decided -it would _make
more of. a change if we stayed
in separate billets ,anyway,"
said Danny. "Athome . we
share the same room so we see
quite .-e g-.efrowe-another!'
Barry, the tallest ,of the trio,
was recruited from .another St.
Lambert team to enter the com-
petition. He attends Jubilee
•..ele:mentary school while Danny
and Erbc go. to St. Lamibert,.ele-
anentary.'
Open Air„
One change the boys will find
when they • play in Goderich is
that the ice is enclosed. In
St. • La ibert the team skates
out of doors all season is no
arena is available for them;
"Theve is an arena in Mon-
treal which is just across the
river- so I guess the taxpayers
don't feel like ,getting one for
us as well," said Danny.
Asked to describe their open•
air skating conditions they
chorused: `°Cold, very cold."
Added Eric: "You get used
to it after a w4hile but every
now and -again when the .wea-
ther gets bad you ndtbee it
again." He added': "We .had
one game last season wfier, we
had to -play in _ lb below wea-
ther,
eatiher, That really Was cold."
All the boys, despite being
hockey enthusiasts, felt that
.there was more future in the
business world_ for them than
in being on .skaters as a per-
'manent-.preposition.
"It really is too difficult to
carry on any form of business
and.be a full-time hockey play-
er as well," suggested Danny.
"Any . way I think I would
choose football rather than
hockey."
Not Bi -Lingual
None of the three boys is
fluently bi-lingual although all
take French as part of their
school ,curriculum in the pro-
vince. Only two boys on the
team are in fact French-Can-
adians.
"Some of us take subjects
like geography in French to
give us a better und'erstandin,g
of the language," • said Barry.
"But .we find we all ,get on
quite well tog,eirher."
All three boys appeared self-
assured and provided aibove av-
erage intelligent conversation
for their age. Each was well
groomed, and after' the initial
 r cry_ -had broken
i tall e I reelly on any sub-
ject that came up.
"We get a great deal of fun
out of coming away on com-
petitions," said Barry, "and just
meeting other pee wee players
from other provinces." '
This year the St. Lambert
--team failed to get a place in
the annual East -Went tgarn;e as
1.
6. the Trois Rivieres team comes,
from a more easterly region in
Queibec.
"Goderich is a place that we,
and I should imagine all the
other pee wee players, will be
grateful to for •years to come
for providing us with this ,op-
portunity playing hockey," said
Danny as he .and his friends
treo.ped nto t , tuna to take
a first glimpse at the "opposi-
tion."
Billet ,"mothers" across the
length and breadth of Goderich
will have experienced similar
episodes with the youngsters
they take under their wing.
Summed -up one temporary
"mother": "Whatever little
trouble they are they more than
make up for it by the enthus-
iasm and fun they bring into
our homes." -
BIG DAY AHEAD
