the development' of nuclear en-
lants in Canada.
The 200,000 kilowatt plant at
Lo!trglas Point has a life ex-
pectancy of around, 30 years,
forecast ,Mr. Lloyd, and :will
eventually ,play a vital role in
the -supply olf, -- in
Canada.
He described the nuclear re-
actor„.in an **electric power plant
as simply a source of heat
which does the •, same job' as
coal, oil or gas -burning instal-
lations of a conventional ther-
mal electric ,generating station.
Heat from the reactor is used
to convert water into steam,
the steam turn aturbine which
drives an electric •generatko-r. -
A total of 200;000 gallons of
water a ,minute is drawn from
Lake Huron to act as a cooling
mixture in the condensor. The
heat of the reactor at the plant
would boil 2,500,000 pounds of
water in .an hour.
