Bojrn in Goder rich, he joined the U.S. Marines alu 1942 -arid went to California in 1944 after overseas service. He was discharged from the Marines at war's end in 1945. After working for Southern Counties Gas Coinpany, he 1a'tge'r set up his own TV antenna business. He was also in the home construction business and operated a retail furniture store., A member' of the Am- erican Legion Post 49, he was a former member of the Lions x Club -and • -was-active in Boy Scout work. He was a gradu- ate of the Detroit Business Institute. In 1944, he married Margaret Baranik, in Bakersfield, who sur- vives ,him, --*'.Also. surviving ar.e his mother, 1V1=ts;, Addie Carroll .of Goderich, -W ho flew" to -»Cali- fornia for the funeral, two sons, Michael" J. and Frank G.. both of Santa Barbara. Staple's, the former Maude Hale, died at Seattle, Washing- ton, on May 23 • in her 851h year.` Her father, Hezekiah Hale, was .born in Goderich on January 12, 1838, in the Hale 'family residence at the foot of Park street. M..nA�W+M. ed�6si+r The Goderich Public Utilities Commission has always tried to keep abreast of the times with modern equipment. The extreme left of this photo shows the modern line truck. This truck is'equipped with derrick, level winding winch and post hole digger. All of these items are hydraulically operated. Next to this truck is the` hydraulic bucket lift which enables :crew to work on high tension Tinea and on nec- essary tree trimming with the utmost of safety and man power saving convenience. This unit can be operated by'one man and is consequently a great time saver.,&U these units are under the direction of` Line Foreman Harry Crane, a man with year's experience. ; In the water works department Reg Bridle also has the most modern equipment assisting his men. There is the power winch truck for the ease of handling heavy water line pipe. Another big manpower saver is the backhoe, with front bucket assembly. This unit has speeded installation considerably.
