The first annual curling bon -
spiel of 'Branch 109 Royal Can-
adian Legion, held at Maitland
Country Club on' the weekend,
drew 20 entries and proved a
highly successful event.
' Aniong Legion branches re-
presented, were those from Lon-
don, Hensall, Kincardine, Han-
over, ,.Goderich, Exeter, Wing-
hain, Ripley, Listowel, Paiisley,
Seaforth' and Walkerton..

band provided 'lively music for
the; opening ceremonies ' and
piped ' the curlers around the
rink at' the comrri.eiicemen•t of

The closing ,dinner at .the Le-
gion Miall Sunday evening saw
the presentation of prizes to
the various winners. Ralph
Kingswell, on behalf of 'the Le-
gion, thanked Dominion Road
Machinery Company ' for do-
nating a handsome trophy for
annual 'competition at the Le-
bonspiel. He also thanked
Molson's Brewery for ' the do-,
nation of some prizes. Zone
Commander Eric Johnstone, on
behalf of Branch, 109, extended

ruck and also for purchasing
shares in •the Club to assist in
launching the rink. He pointed
out that thry Legion was the
only service .club. in Goderich
to hold a bonspiel at the rink
this season.

of I}RMCO, "was in charge ,of
presenting --the• varioua'•riFes,
as well as, the trophy, which
his 'firm donated, CO the win-
ning London rink.

The death occurred suddenly
at Toronto last ' Thursday of
May M. Lane, widow of the
late W. P. Lane, a former- min-
ister of North Street United
'Church, Goderich. ' Her hus-

grandchild.
